One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word is CREATE. I have gone from being a teacher to a stay at home mom and one of the ways that I have maintained who I am (separate from my son) is to exercise my creative side. I have become empassioned by photography, scrapbooking, word art, etc. How fulfilling to be with my son and nurture my passions and hobbies. I am very lucky.

Courage. Courage to make it thru back surgery. Courage to make it thru a gastric bypass. Courage to keep my business as a CMTH floating. Courage to stand against the naysayers in my life who drag me down. Courage.
Love, Angi

Hi, Ali,
I loved your December Daily book!! Simon is just the cutest little guy ever! The Polar Express pictures were great.
I think my word for this year ('09) will be
"memories." My father passed away last year after a 6 month battle with cancer and while I am still so sad, I am going to remember all the good times we shared. I saw him every day and he was my coffee buddy. I am going to scrapbook all my good memories this coming year. Joan

This is going to be my first year picking out a word for the year. It's going to be Observe. I get so caught up in everything and what's going to happen next, I want to slow down and observe all the wonderful things around me everyday. I might even start a journal for this. Thanks Ali!

PERSEVERE will be my word for 2009: In my relationship with the Lord, pressing in and growing as a Christian; Returning to college after 10 years, now with a husband and two children, I will definatley need to PERSERVERE; With finances and believing in blessings of overflow; PERSERVERE as a parent, constantly learning to teach and lead my two boys; PERSERVERE as a wife...remaining close and growing with my husband as life becomes more hectic in 2009.

STRENGTH ....is my word for 2009. The strength to go on living without a loved one. To be strong for my Grandsons. To have the strength to finish what I started. The strength to go forward with my hopes and dreams.

My word for 2009 will be NOW. Too often we focus on what the future will bring. It's great to set goals but when you are constantly thinking about what will or may come along, you're not enjoying NOW. Life isn't what may happen tomorrow, next week, or next year; life is what is happening right at this very moment. Tomorrow may not come and I don't want to waste a single minute of today, which is here and real and something I shouldn't waste. I also get caught up in the past occasionally (shoulda-woulda-coulda) and I cannot change what has already happened. I want 2009 to be about focusing on what is happening 'in the NOW'.

I haven't nailed it down yet but random thoughts are Goal, Focus, Drive, Achieve..... I have joined a gym and am looking to get things done in 2009. Lose weight, finish up 1000+ projects around the house, and find my passion in life ( i have a fabulously passionate husband - so not related to marital passion:) but personal passion.

My word for last year was enjoy and I don't know that I truly embraced it. I may use that again, but I also must admit I love your word Ali-nurture. I have a 13 month old and a second baby on the way in April. I need to do a lot of nurturing this year... with the baby, my little boy, my husband, me...
Thanks for the inspiration.

My word for 2008 was create. I did alot of creating and not just art etc. either. I used the word throughout my daily life.
I cannot decide between time and live for my word of 2009. Both will have very similar meaning tho - Live- Start living life like there is no tomorrow, and Time - Enjoying the time I have.

Understanding. I think if I learn to sit back and take a long look from the outside at the things that are going on in my life, I can learn to understand them better. Once I understand them, I think I'll be able to handle them. At least that is my goal.

While I'm still deciding on what my word will be for 2009, I have some frontrunners. I've been wanting to consider my career path and long-term contentment, as well as organize my home, my finances, my life, and set goals for the future. So, all of that requires FOCUS. It will also require that I DISCOVER more about who I am and what I want in my life. I also struggle with just enjoying life, always planning and thinking ahead, rather than living in the moment. Many times I'd get more enjoyment if i were to just BE. One of those three, FOCUS, DISCOVER or BE are going to shine in 2009!
Colleen
PS I love your word choice too, it says so much about life, home and family. Enjoy!

I have been so excited about chosing a new word. My word has evolved from relax to focus to NOW. My word is NOW. I want to focus on the moment at hand, enjoy my kids, and stop thinking ahead so much and all the lists of things I have to do. I love this part of the year so much . . . choosing my word!
