One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Last year my word was STRONG as i had a not so good end of 07. Having my word helped me and i really did feel STRONG in a number of areas in my life.
Because i was a bit self focused on being STRONG and getting myself on track - this year i want to FOCUS on others - specifically my family and more specifically my wonderful husband who helped me with being STRONG.
So my word is FOCUS and I am looking forward to FOCUSING on my relationship
thanks Ali - having a 'word' has really helped me

"ACCEPT"
Sometimes we can not change things that have happened and I think this year I just have to accept what this life has in store for me.

I only recently discovered your blog & I love it. I love this idea of choosing a word for the year & have been thinking about it for the past couple of weeks. I've finally decided the word that I want for me for the 2009 is...ENJOY! I'm a mother of four & sometimes in the every day grind of motherhood I forget to slow down & notice the little things that will pass by me too quickly. Live in the now...enjoy the moment. Thanks for such a great idea.

I'm going to have to think about my word a bit longer. I recently lost my job and I may have a job offer today or tomorrow. So I want to pick a word that would resemble something like "new beginning" but yet something different that would work for me and have meaning. Happy New Year everyone.

For 2009 my word is: J O Y
It's not just for Christmas, I decided (but I did find a 75% off letter plaque to hang on the wall as a reminder).
Growing by learning to have joy despite circumstances.
Being a joy to others.
Bringing joy to others.

I have so many words.....live, love, laugh...everyday, but I do like the word ENJOY for 2009.....being "in joy" about every day seems appropriate.

I arrived here via Liz at "Be Present, Be Here" and marvel at the selection of meaningful words. My word for 2009 will be TRANSITION. It will serve me well on many levels: in particular, accepting my husband's terminal illness and my own change in health. It is a neutral word that leaves room for many nuances. This is exciting! Thanks for helping me make a commitment for 2009! Happy New Year to you.

My word for 2009 is SERENDIPITY. According to Wikipedia, "Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely". I want to be more aware of the magic of life instead of thinking everything has to be so hard and sometimes making it that way.

Hi Ali-
I've spent a lot of time thinking about my word for 2009 and after looking at my goals, I have decided my word for 2009 is FERVOR. Fervor means intense and passionate feeling and I want everything I do to be filled with FERVOR. I also felt this word was very unique and one often forgotten. I am so excited to start 2009 with FERVOR! Have a happy new year!

My 2009 word will be CELEBRATE. I wanted a word that was optimistic and yet applied to every day life. I am going to look for things to celebrate and reasons to be happy.
Even failure can be celebrated because it means you tried. That's something to celebrate!

I've been thinking about this and honestly the first thing that comes to mind is FUN. I had a crap year and in 2009 I'm putting it behind me and focusing on fun things! Going places, hanging with friends, getting reacquainted with family, meeting new people....just having FUN! :)
