One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word is "Eager". First in a spiritual sense: "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ" Philippians 1:20. Secondly, in a sense of eagerly living my life to please God. To eagerly seek to love my husband and son, to eagerly work with my hands (creativity),and to serve others. The definition of eager is,"having or showing keen interest or intense desire or impatient expectancy". I am eager to see what God has planned for 2009!

Happy New Year Ali!
I'm still debating between CREATE and SIMPLIFY. Nothing original but they represent very well what I lack in my life.
CREATE SIMPLY.
SIMPLIFY to CREATE.
Hugs & kisses,

{BE PRESENT}
I would like to be present in all the moments of my life. I want to live in the moment and not worry so much about the little things.

My word, too, is NURTURE. This year I am taking the time to nurture my spirited child and really understand the beauty of who she is, nurture my relationship with my husband, nurture my wonderful friendships, nurture myself, and nurture my surroundings by purging the "stuff" and only keeping just those things that are life essentials. I have found it feels good to have space vs. clutter. Go 2009!

Hi Ali,
I haven't completely focussed on a word yet, but these are a few I am thinking of:
Minimalize, simplify, repurpose, reuse.
Definitely a recycling/purging theme this year.

I think my word will be "Aware". I need to slow down and think more of what I am doing in the present.
Happy New Year! You're very inspiring!

First timer in the word game, so here goes.....my word for 2009 is EMBRACE.
I want to be able to take in all that is happening, the good and the bad, and know that's life and embrace it.
No point being a spectator in my own life.
Happy new year (it's already kicked over to the 2009 here in Australia), and take care.

My word for 2009 is COURAGEOUS. I want to find the courage to reach for the stars, the courage to stand up for myself, the courage to be brave in the face of fear, the courage to live life how I want (not how someone else tells me I should). I hope to make many new changes in my life for the coming year and years to come! Happy New Year all!

My word for 2009 is ACT. I asked my husband what his word would be (I didn't explain though) and he said "How about the work 'the'. That one is important." Then I explained. We were standing in line at the bank and he walked up to the teller and told her that my word for the year was ACT. She was pretty interested and decided her word was going to be FOCUS because she needed to switch her focus. She didn't even think about it. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the gorgeous give-aways...I'm still considering what my word will be this year, but I'm really thinking hard about the word 'intent' or intention possibly. I don't know....I hate to admit it, but I didn't do much with my word last year once I decided on something. :(
On the other hand, it was fun talking with friends to see what word they would choose, so it was a great conversation starter! In any case, thank YOU so much for all you do on this blog...you are definitely thought-provoking & artistic. Two of my favorite qualities in others! Cheers & Happy 2009!

Thanks for reminding us to pick a new word. the year seems to go so fast. I am still thinking about mine but would love the giveaway.
Good luck with the new baby. I found that adding my second was almost as life changing as adding the first. What was simple with one child seemed so much harder. But the rewards you reap will be well worth it, my second was my little princess and there is nothing like having a daughter!
