One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Hi Ali,
I can't wait to start this project... how can ONE WORD make you feel so much and evoke new and exciting things inot both your personal and creative life... My word is...
REFRESHING
new; rejuvinating;
having the power to restore freshness, vitality, energy, etc.
pleasingly fresh or different:
renewing by stimulation:
and lastly as I am about to undertake a university course in Mathematics and information technology...
Computer Science REFRESH
To renew (the image on a display screen) by renewing the flow of electrons from the cathode-ray tube: The faster a monitor refreshes images, the less it flickers.
To maintain (data in a dynamic RAM) by sending a new electric pulse to recharge the chips.

Still pondering the word - maybe "grow" or "faith" or even just good old basic "love" or, maybe, "patience" which I preach to my young daughter but need myself! still thinking about it!

For 2008 my word was "believe" and through the year I learnt to believe in myself, my family, the world around me and my faith. For 2009 my word is "Joy". I am going to find the joy in my life, my children and my world. Anno Hilarius 2009.

My word is "DO".
For too much of my life I have sat and waited and let the world pass me by. Here I am at 38 and I think of all the things I have never done, but always wanted to... or things I have said I would do, but only did halfway or barely at all... I'm done with waiting and missing. I want to DO.

My word for 2009 is very common, very used, but also very perfect for me. DREAM. 2008 held a lot of difficulties for me, with a divorce and huge obstacles with my son... but 2009 is going to be the year *I* make my dreams come true. The year *I* take my life into my own hands and make dreams reality.

Hi Ali, This is the first time I've chosen a word for the year. My word is LISTEN.
Listen to others, listen to my inner voice, etc. I move very fast and sometimes I just need to stay still and listen before acting.
Thanks for getting me to think about this at the cusp of a brand new year. Happy New Year to you and your family.

it's tough to settle on just one word, but I think I'm going to go for "family". My oldest is a sophomore in college, and our youngest - twins - will be freshmen in 2009, so we are facing an empty nest. VERY hard to think about. I will be a basket case come next August!

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that my 2009 word will be COMMITMENT. I am so bad at sticking with plans and ideas that I have, so I can see this word really helping me. Thanks for the chance at a giveaway! Love your word choice :)

Wow! Great word and so fitting.
Thank you for such a great giveaway.
My word for 2009 is TRY.
Yesterday I received my first ever pink slip. As a recent University graduate who has done nothing but go to school for the majority of her life I am still in shock to say the least. I had hoped that having an education would allow me a little job security, guess I was wrong. Well this has pushed me to try and branch out, think outside of the box and really TRY to find something that fulfills me a little bit more.
Happy New Year to you and your growing family.
