One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

i'm thinking my word for 2009 will be grateful.
sometimes we all can forget what we have, love and neglect, so i am going to keep grateful in my mind all year long. i do have a lot to be grateful for, i just have to remain conscious of it.

Hi Ali, Happy New Year. What a great choice for your word. My word for 2009 will probably be "choose" in the most optimistic way - I will choose freedom, I will choose to homeschool my sons, I will choose to say "no" to opportunities when they don't match my families' needs.
Having the recent opportunity to spend an entire day in court on jury service, I picked up "the hour I first believed" and am over 1/2 finished with it. Intriguing read...I would love to learn your take on the book so far.

I want to be still and quiet this year.

I want to quit filling my time with silly noise.
I want to avoid saying things I shouldn't.
I want to be quick to listen and slow to speak.

My word for 2009 is PROGRESS, as in progress, not perfection.
My 2008 word, hope, helped make 2008 a wonderful year. I learned so much, and remembering hope helped to ground me on a daily basis.

My word for 2009 is GROW. What's on my mind for the coming year is continuing to be patient and stay the course with lots of things that aren't "perfect" for me. It's ok to be uncomfortable at times...learning to grow some of my own vegetables, learning to bake bread and can food to put up for my family...learning to rely on seasonal and local food...take in how my little ones are growing so fast...learn to sew a bit, maybe crochet or knit...so much I can do with this one little word...
The jewelry is gorgeous, really like the art, too. Thanks for the chance to win!

My word is PRODUCTIVE....I hope to get lots of things done every day in 2009 and find myself ready for Christmas next December 1....so that I can just sit around and eat bon bons in December instead of rushing around like crazy....I don't know how PRODUCTIVE will look on my necklace, but I'd love to win!

I am still thinking - the year and Fall have been a whirlwind with no time to think (yet many pleasures). Last years was about living simply. This year - something along the lines of peace, though that's not quite it either. I'm going to spend some time reading the comments tomorrow for more ideas and see if anything sticks! If you pull my name (out of all these HA!) please give the giveaway to Barbara up at the top whose word is Hope. I think she needs it more. God Bless. Michelle

Vitality. I think this was your word for 2008? I am striving to be healthy and full of life in 2009, and saw it on a water bottle at the gym today. Perfect. So, vitality it is! Happy new year!

My word for the year is "Dance". To me it not only means to dance, but it also means to learn to love myself and embrace who I am enough to be able to dance and not care who is watching or what others think. I really struggle with my desire to impress others rather to enjoy myself they way that I am. I want to DANCE.

I have been thinking about my word for this year - and I think it will be complete. I have a few things I want to complete this year having to do with work and in my personal scrapbooking life and so I think this is the word for me. I also like thinking of this word in terms of our family - we are complete and working in that into our daily lives.
Have a great new year!

As much as I love your choice of 'Nurture'- and would love to use that as well, I think I need to focus on 'Patience' before I can do anything else. So for me, I am choosing 'Patience'.
