One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Oh my gosh look at all these wonderful heartfelt posts here. WOW!!! I have thinking about my little word for the past month and nothing really hits and stays with me. I have so many things I want to work on this year thus alot of words would work. I think I will just go to bed tonight and wake up the morning of the new year and the first word that appears to be the strongest will be my "little word". Could be interesting!!

I'm still thinking about what word I'll choose. Your comment about nurturing yourself resonated with me. It seems lately I've had no time to myself, and want to find a way to gain back some "me" time this year.

My word this year will be "PURPOSE". I have spent a lot of time, money, and energy this past year on things that had no purpose. I think this word will help get me back on track.

Hi Ali --
Happy New Year to you and your family. I love your word. Although I had another word i was considering, it didn't quite cover everything I was thinking about. How I need to work on my relationships, how I need to take care of myself and get into shape, how I need to be a better mother to my kids, and probably, most importantly for me right now, is how I need to take better care of our home. I believe i am a borderline hoarder -- and it definitely causes CHAOS around here. So, I hope you don't mind, but after I researched NURTURE, I have decided that too, is my word for 2009. I know if I BELIEVE (which was the word I was considering) in myself and my abilites, FOCUS (my word from last year) on what is truly important, then I can NURTURE my home, my family and myself. THANK YOU ALI. Usage: To Nurture, Nourish, Cherish. Nourish denotes to supply with food, or cause to grow; as, to nourish a plant, to nourish rebellion. To nurture is to train up with a fostering care, like that of a mother; as, to nurture into strength; to nurture in sound principles. To cherish is to hold and treat as dear; as, to cherish hopes or affections.

Mine might be 2 words. It might be 'create possibilities' or maybe 4 words. 'be open to possibilities'. Not exactly sure yet, but I guess I better hurry up!

My word for 2009 is ENJOY. Sometimes (okay, pretty often) I get so caught up in things that I don't enjoy the moment. I'm so busy trying to get to the light at the end of the tunnel that I don't take time to enjoy the journey.
Happy New Year to you and your family.

No idea yet what my word will be - I don't want to rush the choice but need to find some me time to really contemplate what it should be. Too much chaos and too many house guests at the moment! Your choice is perfect for your life right now.
