Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

my power...I am the glue that holds it all together. Without me bills would not get paid, clothes would not get done, meals would be takeout, glasses would never be found, vacations would not be planned, the next size diaper would not be bought....I keep this household running...like most moms do!!! :-} what beautiful pieces- thanks for the opportunity to have one of them.

In my family they like to call me "Just-Ask-Julia": I find a way out of most problems. Is it awesome? I don't know - I think it's normal to help people. What I'm quite good at is playing the flute: My family encourages me and the music gives us so much joy and happiness.

I have superhero patience. I am grateful that something in me is able to step back and let my toddler and preschooler have the room and space to make mistakes (and messes and noise) and not let it phase me. I never knew how patient I was until I became a Mommy.

I teach. I teach 165 high school students that are all different like every snowflake that falls from the sky. But I do more than just teach, I listen and I learn and I care. And I do this all at once. Am I the best? Probably not. Am I a great teacher? I would say yes. I'm not great because of the content that I teach but because the students know that I will put in the time with them while they are striving to be excellent, I will not let them make excuses, I will only accept the best from them. My superpower is that I wake up every day trying to make today better than yesterday for me, my students and my community.

Hmmm...I think my superpower is listening. Just sitting quietly and allowing another person to tell me whatever they need to say at that moment. It might be my kid telling me about his day; a friends telling me how angry she is with her ex; or my employee telling me that she just found out her husband lost his job. No distractions. No multi-tasking. No trying to solve the problem. Just listening. :)

my superpower - at work I'm known as the girl with the perfect handwriting. I've been handlettering the chalkboards for close to 5 years now and I still love it!

I have an awesome superpower! I am a Super Researcher! Need to find out how (and why) the bathroom faucet is dripping? I'm your girl. Need to figure out how to fix it? No problem! I'm also good at researching really hard topics, like whether financial aid policies preferring American Indians violates the 14th Amendment. (they don't... American Indians are not classified as a racial group for constitutional purposes; rather, they are a political group with a special relationship to Congress) :)

I am the fixer of all things: broken toys, billing problems, meals, schedules, health problems, and on and on and on... I accept this challenge as it keeps life moving smothely.

I am a superhero today because we have survived 4 years since my son's type 1 diabetes diagnosis...we left the hospital in shock and scared and since then I have grown to be an expert and advocate to keep him in the best healthy shape and happy! I am proud to be my son's superhero!

My superpower is having the ability to give direction to anyone in the house who is in search of "something". It's not easy knowing where everything is at any given moment for six people and three dogs... but somehow I do it :) Well.... most of the time anyhow.

I like to think I am pretty good at being a Momma to 5 yo triplets (one of whom is autistic) and a 10 yo son who is autistic. I wouldn't change my life for anything.

At the moment my biggest talent is making milk to nurse my son. :) Other than that, I'm good at saving money.
