Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

My most recent leap was to try a new class at the gym. I typically stick with what I'm familiar with but tried a spinning class this week. Tough, but fun!

My most recent 'leap' was taking a new job (promotion) I wasn't sure I was ready for. I was terrified, but it has really paid off!! Now I know I should listen more closely to those friends/colleagues/family who continually said "you can do it!"

My latest leap was to forgive someone very close to me that HURT me. Writing that letter to let him know I have forgiven him was my ticket to freedom! Also I am in the final round of jury selection for a capital murder trial - lots of folks said why didn't you just get out of it. Isn't a fair and impartial jury of our peers one of our fundamental rights? Anyway I would love to take some classes in Italy! Thanks Ali -

well, my most recent leap was going to a two-day wedding this weekend and leaving my three kids with their Grandma. The youngest is less than a year and only been away from me for a few hours.

Thank you for your timely words. Yes someone else needed to read them ME! It seems the last year was full of "forced leaps" in my life..... A diagnosis of breast cancer resulted in choosing to close my scrapbook store of 11 years. Leaps for sure.. have I grown through it all - by leaps and bounds, it has not been easy, but it has been good! Life is more precious - people are more important and the future is bright.
I had planned to take LOM class this year, heard so much about it last year - but it is not in the cards for this time around, unless of course I won it which would be so cool. Thanks again for posting what Alex shared.

I recently made the leap to stop nursing my twins. It has been difficult for them, and me too, because they will be my last. I am confindent that it is time.

I am not big on doctors and had taken to believing that my DD was just a kid who got sick a lot and that nobody was going to beleive me that she has asthma. Well 3 weeks ago when she was sick I took her to the doctor and asked about a specialist to check out her lungs. That took a lot of courage for me ... and we went to see a pulmonary specialist this week. Loads of tests later we have a diagnosis and an asthma treatment plan - woohoo!

My leap of faith would be waking up every morning and just living the life that comes right before me. So often we think things of faith are big things in life....but having the courage to look positively day after day and take things as they come, looking for the serendipity in everyday occurrences... that is a leap of faith.

Wow...what leap have I taken? Probably the decision to home school my 7 yr old. This is my first year and although I'm still figuring things out...she really seems to be thriving & I am lucky to keep challenging her!

My current act of courage is to admit that even with the treatment that has worked for almost ten years, my depression has returned. I am courageous because I refuse to give in to the depression. I refuse to wrap myself in the blanket of despair. I refuse to stop fighting. I refuse to be a victim. Life is really hard and though I would like to curl up and stay in bed I show my courage everyday by getting through another day.

To decide to have children.
Being "just the two of us" for over 16 years, has been heaven sent. Now we want to share it.

My most recent big leap of faith was in June when I moved from North Carolina to make a life in Connecticut. It was hard leaving my parents behind, but it was the right thing to do to give my son the life he deserved.

My most recent leap of faith would have to be just getting through each day, with a household of 3 adults, and 4 children and being the only working adult in this rough economy, it takes a leap of faith to make each day!!!! Thanks for the chance to win Ali and good luck with the new baby!!

I take a leap of faith everyday. My DS, 14, has Asperger's Syndrome. He begs and pleads with me daily to not go to school. And almost everyday, I send him. Better than half of the days turn out well. But, it is so heartbreaking to send him, knowing how much anxiety surrounds school for him. I never thought this would be my life. But I love him, and he is worth me not giving in to him.

My recent leap came 2 weeks ago when my boyfriend and I went to the pet store to get food for our dog and left with the dog food and a newly adopted 10 month old puppy from a local shelter that brought the pets into the store. We are hoping that this new guy will keep our older one more active and prolong her life.
