Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Wow! what a giveway!
My big leap is committing to taking care of myself and getting healthy this year- it's so hard to put yourself in 'no. 1' position when you've got a family.
I've been drooling over Stacy Julian's class for months now but with the economy the way it is, I knew there was no way I'd be able to swing it this year. But now... just maybe... with a little luck I might!

My most recent leap was recognizing that I needed help and actually asking for it. Not something I like to do, but necessary sometimes :)

My biggest leap was to leave my job to stay at home with the kids. We adopted our children at ages 5, 3, and 2 and I felt I needed to spend a lot of time with them. No regrets on that one!

I have been making sure to stay true to me, even in the face of differences and things that are not what they seem. :)

My most recent "leap or act of courage" was to rejoin Weight Watchers and take control of my health. And the great news...This time my husband is going with me.
Great giveaways; can't wait to see who wins!

My big leap was to submit a piece of my writing to a magazine. I've never shared my work before. It was scary and exciting.
I would love to win a spot in Stacy's Library of Memories class. It would also be a big leap to go from chronological scrapbooking to Stacy's freeing method. :o) Kathy

My biggest leap this year has been to be content being alone. It is not something I ever thought I would be at peace with but find myself becoming more and more content each day. I experienced a couple of major losses in the past couple of years, most significantly the loss of my mother, whom I miss every day, and then the end of a long term relationship soon after. I am discovering that I can be happy alone and just being myself. For others who are going through similar situations, there is hope and better things to come maybe not what you expected, different maybe but better.

My latest leap is a trip to DC in May to celebrate the life of my sister Trooper Kara Kelly, EOW 12/22/08. She will be memorialized on the National wall. It is hard to go there for it, and face it, but I booked the tickets, and am headed there for it.

I don't have any recent "leaps". . .so here's an older one. After I was laid off from my job last March, I took 6 months to just chill & relax from the high-tech industry. I now work at a job I love and one that is so very relaxing too. I'm a manager of a scrapbook store! :)

My biggest leap was that I applied for a position to become a clinical resource nurse (a.k.a. charge nurse) on my busy medical unit. It's a big change and responsibility from moving to being a general duty nurse to providing leadership and being a resource to the nursing staff, etc. I'm quite nervous but if I didn't do this now or have the courage to do it now, i'll probably never do it later. =)

We are in the process of adopting a boy from Ethiopia. This was a leap of faith, but only from the money standpoint. We should be going to pick him up sometime in 2009. What a year.

Signing up for a 5:30 a.m. bootcamp was the hardest thing I've done for a while. Friday is the last day. Can't believe I made it!!

My leap of courage is signing up for a job that I did not think I could do. It's been several months, so far, and I feel good about where I've started. Now, I am working on setting new goals...it's scary, and I fight feelings of being overwhelmed... but I understand this to be a PROCESS rather than something that I must succeed in right away.

What is smaller than a leap? A leapette? I think mine classifies as a leapette...I am a very picky eater (don't like my food touching, turn the plate as I finish one item before going to the next, etc) and last week I tried Mexican casserole (yuk) and chess cake (yum!) Now to most of you, that doesn't sound like a big deal...but for me it was like jumping The Grand Canyon on a motorcycle ala Evil Knievel! I have decided that I need to be more adventuous!

The most recent for me was after taking a break from being super involved, switching to a new church and going to the church's neighborhood gathering and also a class on City Matters. It's been a while since I've surrounded myself with strangers and potential new friends. It's scary but also feels good.
