Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

I scheduled that dreaded GYN appt. w/ the 40 yr old baseline mammogram. I seriously didn't want to do it, but realized my fear was selfish. So I've been walking around thinking about how cool I am! ;) Enjoy your baby girl leap Ali. Incredible it will be.

Big Leap - In July, I quit my beloved teaching job and moved our family 600 miles so my husband could persue a new career and I could stay home with our kids. Moving to a new city, knowing no one wasn't easy! But we have made so many new friends and made a real home for ourselve here. It has turned out to be a blessing.
Small Leap - I made a new breakfast treat for my boys this morning and they loved it. Change can be good!

This is kind of a small leap, but last year, I decided to start blogging so that family and friends who live far away would be able to see pictures of our two kids and keep in touch. I was nervous about blogging because I'm not a very talkative, outgoing person and I was afraid people wouldn't care to see the pictures or hear my stories, but I've heard from several people about how much they enjoy the blog, so I'm glad I took that leap.

Forgiving has never come easy to me. I hold grudges to no end. At this time in my life I have realized that I need to forgive and move forward. It has been such an amazing lesson in my life. This was a choice I made with courage. Small leap for some, but a huge accomplishment in my life.

While it was really my 16-yr. old daughter's leap, I had to actually let go and allow her to do it. She's only had her drivers license since October but she took it upon herself to drive 40 minutes south of our home, on the freeway in rush hour, to a college open house, attend by herself (I had to be with our son and dad was out of town) and then drive herself 1/2 an hour back up to her Club volleyball practice. All at night. Thank God for cell phones, so I knew when she arrived and when she got back on the road. That was quite a leap of faith for me. Sigh....they grow up so fast!

Last night my 20 year old daughter, presently enrolled at UO was told she "passed" the interview & application process to become an exchange student in Mexico for spring term. She's thrilled & so are we, but this is a big leap for all of us to find the funds to help pay for this opportunity, and try hard not to miss her when she's gone!
Thank you for the opportunities you offer too!

But I am beginning to feel and see the tole that has taken on me physiclaly and mentaly. Life is to short to not live and enjoy the moment. So I must leap away

My husband was transferred to the Middle East in October (HUGE leap of faith to follow him here with our kids...scary amount of culture difference but learning to like it more everyday). I drove in rush hour traffic here tonight (small leap of faith because driving here is a real adventure).

My big leap---making my health a priority and joining WW to lose the last of the pregnancy weight. I'm so glad I did, but, as crazy as it sounds, it took tons of courage for me to join.

My most recent big leap was resigning my teaching postion to stay home with my children. While at times (especially recently with the current economic climate) but I know for me and my family it has been best. Scary to voluntarily give up an income, but for use the benefits of my staying home seem to be worth far more than money.

How right you are, sometimes we are forced to leap, I think in December I took the biggest leap of my life. (Details are so very personal that I hope it's okay I don't give details). I don't think I've landed from that leap yet, I'm still haning in mid air as it is all playing out. I just have faith that is will all work out becasue the plan was set long ago!

BUT i'm super thrilled with chills of fear & chills of excitement to begin this new journey! europe has been calling my name for some time and i'm itching to begin a new road in life with my career!

This one is easy for me to answer. We have a 13 year old daughter and were going through infertility for 7 years. we finally conceived our son a year and a half ago. We were done, I was older and we could not be happier. Fate gave us a turn when I was expecting again (now due in April). This was the biggest shock we could have gotten, but what a great miracle. Now we have a new daughter that we are waiting for in April.

I haven't made any leaps lately, except for little daily leaps. I guess I'm really afraid of change. I'm in awe of people who make big leaps everyday and manage to handle it. Then again, God never gives us more than we can handle, right?

My leap everyday is to have faith in my Heavenly Father, that he will take care of me and that everything will be ok. It's not always a big leap, but it definately requires some work now and again.
