Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Wow funny that you have picked this comment as I've just agreed to take my great leap, I started scrapbooking just 6 months ago but it has give me such clarity in my head and removed so much of my stress, I have lost 10kg already in this process (no more stress eating) but now after spending to much time doing things I don't like I can say no to people now, a long suffering people pleaser has finally said No! For me that is the biggest break through I could ever have. Love the site Ali :-)

Mine was an unexpected pregnancy! Our 4th baby arrived this past November, its been a ride, but all has worked out and, though I was nervous about a 4th cesarean and a 4th baby, now I wouldn't change anything!

Today's little leap was in the midst of feeling overwhelmed by too my "to do's" I asked a co-worker for help. Asking for help was a little leap.
My big leap is learning how to care for my health as I was recently diagnosised with diabetes and a partially blocked arteries. Instead of saying why me, I am learning about new foods, learning to mediate and moving forward!

Awesome giveaways Ali. My biggest leap in recent months was buying a standard car when I didn't know how to drive it! Thanks to my patient husband, I've been able to learn and can hold my own now. Though I still struggle with being stopped on steep inclines ... and you Ghandi quote this week speaks to me, as I have to constantly say to myself 'I can do this' so I don't give up and render myself incapable of it!

Our act of courage is, day by day, live with cancer for over 4 years. Enjoy every moment, do scrap together and know that these are the moments that really matter. My mother, every day, showed me her courage to live. And I'm very proud of her.
Thanks also for sharing your acts of courage.
Kisses from Spain

Hi there - I think my most recent and biggest leap was to move to England to work for 18 months. Didn't know anyone going there, but ended up having such an amazing time. Now I'm back in Australia, glad for having seen more of the world and hoping I get the opportunity to go back again one day! :)

My leap feels more like a shove. I have been shoved/made to leap for the past year as my husband decided he wasn't happy anymore so he left me and our two kids. Not to mention my mom battling MELANOMA for the past few years. As a 6th grade teacher who is helping kids leap positivly everyday you can only imagine how hard it is for me to accept the leaps...thanks for the saying...it has gone into my journal.

I've spent the last ten years living with a chronic pain disorder. It seemed when I received my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, five years ago, that at least the knowing was better than the mystery of what was causing the pain. However; I found that once you live with it for a while there is a also a security in knowing that takes over. With this comes the habit of chalking up all of your pain and related symptoms to the same diagnosis and living in that cacoon.
When I started feeling extreme and unusual pain along with other symptoms I tried my best to just deal with it as I always do. The fear of thinking what else it might be was keeping me from doing what I should, see the doctor!
I finally pushed myself through this. I realized that this is not just about me, as we always tell our children. It is about my child, my husband and about the aging parents I help to take care of. It's about my family and friends who count on me to be there, sick or not.
I saw the doctor two days ago, and we are talking and testing now for possible MS. Your question was so timely and profound for me.... I think my leap may be small for me, but big for those around me. I'm still afraid, but glad I have taken the leap, still scared but glad.

My biggest leap was moving to Japan last for fall for my husband's job. We will be here 3-5 years. Living in a country where english is not the primary language has been challenging, but we are making it.

My recent leap was to go visit a new friend three hours away. I met her last summer at an Adobe Laptop Crop. I do not have any friends that paper scrap let alone digital scrap. It is so great to know someone who share my passion for scrapbooking paper as well as digital. So when she invited me up for a visit, I decided to go:)

Hi Ali. What a great message to read through and contemplate. My leap would be the decision to sell our home in England, all part of our bigger leap to move to Canada in the next year or two. It's a home I love and have worked hard to make homey and it's sad and difficult to say 'goodbye'.
All the goodies and giveaways are awesome (the italy trip would be just the coolest!!) H.x
