Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

My leap was one of faith these past few months. My hubby is in an industry that completely stopped during this recession. I tried whining, being scared, mad, sad & realized I had the role of supporter to him through it all. He has recently decided on a new career, and even though we are older and not necessarily wiser, we are taking a plunge into unknown territories. It will be an adventure for sure.
thanks Ali!

My most recent act of courage or "forced leap" was having to make the decision to let my cat of 13 years, who was very sick with kidney disease, go. I worried that I wouldn't know when the right time was, but when it came, I did. As heartbreaking as it was, I knew she was beginning to suffer and didn't want that for her. It has been even more painful than I imagined it would be, but I loved the last sentence in the thought you posted from Alex... "All leaps are important because little by little, we live through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones we seek for ourselves." This was something that I did need to hear today, and it helps a lot!! :)

My most recent "leap"? Really can't think of any. That is terrible!! Maybe that thought will inspire me to get out that and do something out of my comfort zone.

My big leap was going down to part-time at work so that I can go back to school. I really struggled with it, but it's now so worthwhile!

My most painful leap was miscarrying our first child. Found out I had a tumor and spent the next 6 month working up to surgery and healing from the surgery AND the loss.

my biggest leap was to try hand surgery again, 2nd time in 6 months, to see if i could get improved use of my hand. i'm a dental hygienist so hands are a good bit of the work equipment! Glad i did, a ruptured tendon and ligament, hopefully totally repairable! worth the surgery and the pain.

My most recent leap is happening at the moment. After 14 years, I'm changing the focus of my business - giving up the thing that has been my main income to focus on the elements of my job that I love the most and totally changing the direction of my business.

It doesn't seem much but I've finally been brave and booked me in for my full-body check - too scared to do it - but I have so many reasons to do it :)

It seems my leaps are mostly small. I've recently given myself permission to create. I used to put it off until my house was clean, the laundry was done, dinner prepared, etc... Well, there is always something that needs done and if I wait until everything is caught up, I never get around to creating. I've found I am so much happier when I can spend even a small amount of time each day working at some type of craft. Now, I make it a point to sit down at my desk each day with the sole purpose of working on creating something, no matter how small.

My biggest act of courage is standing up to parents...I am a school counselor in the high school I attended. Many of the students' parents are parents of my own classmates. I have become more and more confident in talking to those parents as an adult and a professional. It's a big step for me - I like to make everyone happy. :)

My most recent big leap is that I started back at University in January and am taking 2 (light) courses and still continue to work full time! It's been 3-4 years since I last took a course and I feel pretty ok, and not too 'old'. =)

My leap of courage is everyday in the classroom working with my very special group of kiddoes and letting them know it's better to the take the chance and fail rather than to never take the chance at all.

You are amazing. Your blog is amazing. I love your challenges and how they make my think.
My most recent leap of faith was deciding to close my retail Scrapbook store. I knew in my heart that it needed to be done in order for me to regain control in my life and be with my family. I struggled in my heart with my decision. Just 3 months after we closed, my Mother passed away very sudden. Her death has completely changed my life and I knew that I would not have been able to manage the store in addition to what my family needed with her death.
I am grateful I took that leap of faith and trusted in my heart to do what I knew I needed to do. It prepared me for what was to come.
Thanks Ali! Still waiting for baby news!

I was pushed into my leap/change by the sudden death of my oldest and dearest friend over Thanksgiving. Her daughter asked me to adopt her two dogs that were her constant companions. I was afraid the dogs would be a constant sad reminder...and I wasn't sure I wanted to take on the extra work and be tied down (selfish, huh?). Well, they do remind me (joyfully)of her..with every leap, lick and wag. This leap/push has been a real blessing. Thanks for helping me reframe my loss.

Sticking with my monthly goals has been my leap!
Italy sounds great but I hope I don't win that one as I'll be too pregnant to go then :) Good luck to everyone else!

In 2004, when my father had his first heart attack, I traded two decades of professional life for that of caregiver to my nonogenarian parents. My father passed away 15 months ago, but the time I still spend daily with my mother is priceless. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to make this choice.
