Music for Baby.
Tags:One of my recent projects was setting up a playlist for the ipod in Anna's room. It's nice to have some music on when we're hanging out in there or when she is trying to get to sleep.
I wanted a good mix of music: some new, some old, some for babies, but mostly mellow stuff that I like. A few of my favorites in the mix include:
Blackbird by Sarah McLachlan
Three Little Birds by Renee & Jeremy (special thanks to Deirdre - entire album is wonderful)
You Are My Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell
Imagine by Jack Johnson
Girl From The North Country by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan
New Soul by Yael Naim
Here's a link to the full iMix: For Baby

As I was setting this up today I started thinking that documenting this would be a cool thing to do for Anna's baby album. I wondered if my Mom & Dad listened to music around the house when I was a baby and if they did, what were they into? I went to my Baby playlist on iTunes and hit print.
The cool thing I discovered is that in iTunes you can print out your playlist as a CD case and it can include some of the album cover images as well...perfect for then creating a page that showcases the songs on her babyhood. I printed the sheet you see above on photo paper and have it ready to add to a layout here on my workspace.
I would love to read your recommendations for good hang-out-with-a-baby music. Feel free to leave some of your favorites listed in the comments.
And the super cute felted bunny in the top photo? It is from a felted pattern called Wolly Bunnies designed by Marie
Mayhew available from The Yarnery. Seems like a perfect Easter or spring or new baby crafty project. I checked out their site and they also offer a full kit (vs. just the pattern) to felt two bunnies.

A warm welcome to my newest sponsors: Paper Relics and Scrapbook Circle. Look for giveaways from each of them later this month.

When I don't want to think about words and just relax. I pop in the soundtrack from Curious George. Make sure it's the one from Jack Johnson. He has such a soothing voice and I'm sure that he will lull little Anna back to sleep.

I like to sing so I purchased a CD of the "Sound of Music" soundtrack (no Itunes in 1999) and sang along to it while hanging out with my daughter. We also enjoyed dancing to the music of the Candian group Great Big Sea "Rant and Roar" particularly -- they do upbeat versions of old sea shanties.
I love you layout idea and will try it -- I also think it would be fun to put together a CD as a baby gift for my cousin who is due in April. THANKS for the great ideas!

Ali, My daughter (now 8) loved and still loves
Teaching Peace by Red Grammer. I wouldn't say all of the songs were great for bedtime, but a nice mix of upbeat and relaxing. Many of the songs have a beautiful message. This would be a great choice for Simon as well. Here is a list of some of the song titles from the album. . .I hope you give it a try. . .you won't be disappointed! (:

yay! I'm so glad someone passed Renee and Jeremy on to you! I use their music for slideshows of our itty bitty clients. It took me a while to get through "Welcome to this world" without crying.

Capri by Colby Caillat is one of my favorites. I listen to it all the time. The first part of the song goes
she holds her belly tight all through the night just so she knows she's sleeping softly.
Its a great baby song.

my fave song that I've shared with my daughter has been Free Falling (I like Tom Petty's version best but John Mayer's is pretty, too.) My little girl is 2 now, but we listened to this so many times (and I've sang it so many times) that she can sing most of the words by herself. Very sweet.

A third vote for Linda Ronstadt's Dedicated to the one I love---heard it playing in a toy store initially & HAD to have it! Sweet music! Here's an amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Dedicated-One-Love-Linda-Ronstadt/dp/B001CBW14Y/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1238436054&sr=8-1
Love the bunny! I knit a little bunny for my 2nd baby out of angora plucked from our own angora bunny (they're bred to not have much feeling in their skin, so when pulling their shedding hair, it doesn't hurt them---they just sit in your lap, content!), then spun the angora fuzz for the yarn to knit the toy bunny! fun memories!!

As far as for around the house when he was a wee bit, just whatever was on the radio - although he seemed to have a preference for the oldies station... he liked his 50's and 60's music LOL
Now anything that he can wiggle his little butt to, he likes.
But for quiet times as a newborn and even now 20 months later... he has always listened to Rockaby baby cd's- lullaby renditions of different rock bands... Nick's favorite is the Eagles, Radiohead and No Doubt
They have tons of others including Metallica, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, AC/DC, Coldplay, The Cure, Floyd, Zepplin, U2 and the Rolling Stones... there are more but I can't think of all of them.. here is a link to the complete list

As soon as we turn those on, my son either climbs up on the couch to snuggle with me... or goes in his room and snuggles in his quiet area :)

What a great idea....I print out the itunes covers all the time, and it never occurred to me use one on a scrapbook page.
I have some lovely songs to recommend:
1. "I Bid You Goodnight" - Nicolette Larson from her "Sleep, Baby Sleep" album with Linda Ronstadt doing the harmony;
2. "Little Road to Bethlehem" - Shawn Colvin from the "Holiday Songs and Lullabies" album;
3. "Watching the River Run" by Loggins and Messina;
4. "Halley Came to Jackson" by Mary Chapin Carpenter (one of my all-time favorites).
My twenty year old still loves all these songs. Have fun!

Ok, so I just read through every comment--LOL No one mentioned my favorite artist which is Jim Brickman. His piano playing is so wonderful and he has a Disney Hits CD that I listen to before bed. And I'm 35!
