Music for Baby.
Tags:One of my recent projects was setting up a playlist for the ipod in Anna's room. It's nice to have some music on when we're hanging out in there or when she is trying to get to sleep.
I wanted a good mix of music: some new, some old, some for babies, but mostly mellow stuff that I like. A few of my favorites in the mix include:
Blackbird by Sarah McLachlan
Three Little Birds by Renee & Jeremy (special thanks to Deirdre - entire album is wonderful)
You Are My Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell
Imagine by Jack Johnson
Girl From The North Country by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan
New Soul by Yael Naim
Here's a link to the full iMix: For Baby

As I was setting this up today I started thinking that documenting this would be a cool thing to do for Anna's baby album. I wondered if my Mom & Dad listened to music around the house when I was a baby and if they did, what were they into? I went to my Baby playlist on iTunes and hit print.
The cool thing I discovered is that in iTunes you can print out your playlist as a CD case and it can include some of the album cover images as well...perfect for then creating a page that showcases the songs on her babyhood. I printed the sheet you see above on photo paper and have it ready to add to a layout here on my workspace.
I would love to read your recommendations for good hang-out-with-a-baby music. Feel free to leave some of your favorites listed in the comments.
And the super cute felted bunny in the top photo? It is from a felted pattern called Wolly Bunnies designed by Marie
Mayhew available from The Yarnery. Seems like a perfect Easter or spring or new baby crafty project. I checked out their site and they also offer a full kit (vs. just the pattern) to felt two bunnies.

A warm welcome to my newest sponsors: Paper Relics and Scrapbook Circle. Look for giveaways from each of them later this month.

Ali, for my daughter I have several of the Rockabye Baby CDs, which are instrumental versions of songs by real bands and artists. We have The Beatles, The Beach Boys, U2, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, and Radiohead, but there are others, too. I also have a Johnny Cash one.
For a little more upbeat music I absolutely adore The Laurie Berkner Band. She writes fun and easy childrens music and the songs are so catchy that I find myself singing them to my daughter all the time. I definitley highly recommend you check it out!

I second the Jack Johnson Curious George CD. It's in my girls CD player now. When she was a couple of months old we would play Band of Horses and dance with her everynight to get her to fall asleep. That CD will forever bring me back to those nights - it makes me emotional even now! I also love Coldplay! We like Blackbird too, but we listen to the Dave Matthews version. These Are the Days by Van Morrison reminds me of the scene from 9 months at the end when Hugh Grant is dancing with the baby. And finally, a friend made a mix for my girl when she was born that inlcudes Father and Daughter by Paul Simon... AH...!

I really like 1234 by Fiest. It's a little more upbeat but still mellow and simple for babies. My little girl loves the "la, la, la" parts.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole" That was our fave too! Really. . .we listened to it over and over. I also had some Josh Groban songs on my baby playlist and Frank Sinatra. The Somewhere over the Rainbow song (also known as the Hawaiian lullaby) was our fave though. =)

My current favorite songs right now have the most beautiful soft music (and the lyrics are so lovely!):
Samson by Regina Spektor
The Minnow And The Trout by A Fine Frenzy
They make me swoon and they'd be the perfect background for a baby, in my opinion. =)

My baby was born May 2003. And we had a CD player in the hospital and in her nursery. From day 1 we played Babel Gilberto-Tanto Tempo CD for her. It really calmed her and seemed to help her relax. It didn't scrap this in her baby album, but I may go back and do that now. Great idea!

Ali, we have two (!) babies in the house, and we love to listen to music all day. I love the Barenaked Ladies Snack Time (available on itunes), lots of really fun silly songs. Also, Capitol Sings Kids' Songs for Grown-ups is another great cd, we purchased it at Land of Nod a few years back but I know they still sell it. There are some great songs my mother used to sing to me and I can now share with my children.
These are a few of my favorite:
the teddy bear's picnic
glow worm
A you're adorable (also an adorable book available of the same name)
a bushel and a peck
I wanna be a friend of yours
