Music for Baby.
Tags:One of my recent projects was setting up a playlist for the ipod in Anna's room. It's nice to have some music on when we're hanging out in there or when she is trying to get to sleep.
I wanted a good mix of music: some new, some old, some for babies, but mostly mellow stuff that I like. A few of my favorites in the mix include:
Blackbird by Sarah McLachlan
Three Little Birds by Renee & Jeremy (special thanks to Deirdre - entire album is wonderful)
You Are My Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell
Imagine by Jack Johnson
Girl From The North Country by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan
New Soul by Yael Naim
Here's a link to the full iMix: For Baby

As I was setting this up today I started thinking that documenting this would be a cool thing to do for Anna's baby album. I wondered if my Mom & Dad listened to music around the house when I was a baby and if they did, what were they into? I went to my Baby playlist on iTunes and hit print.
The cool thing I discovered is that in iTunes you can print out your playlist as a CD case and it can include some of the album cover images as well...perfect for then creating a page that showcases the songs on her babyhood. I printed the sheet you see above on photo paper and have it ready to add to a layout here on my workspace.
I would love to read your recommendations for good hang-out-with-a-baby music. Feel free to leave some of your favorites listed in the comments.
And the super cute felted bunny in the top photo? It is from a felted pattern called Wolly Bunnies designed by Marie
Mayhew available from The Yarnery. Seems like a perfect Easter or spring or new baby crafty project. I checked out their site and they also offer a full kit (vs. just the pattern) to felt two bunnies.

A warm welcome to my newest sponsors: Paper Relics and Scrapbook Circle. Look for giveaways from each of them later this month.

Close To You... by the Carpenters. "On the day that you were born the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true...so they sprinkled moondust in your hair..." I used to sing this to my daughter when she was a baby...she is now 17 and occasionally she still ask for me to sing it;)
My son I played a song (and ofcourse sang it too)...don't know the name of it but it went "Sweetie pie, sweetie guy. Little apple, apple of my eye..."
Dancingly, Denise

In agreement for the Jack Johnson Curious George album. Our son never tires of listening to it, and neither do we.
I also like Natalie Merchant These Are the Days, Counting Crows Big Yellow Taxi, Jo Dee Messina Bring on the Rain, and Rich Mullins You Gotta Get Up (if you celebrate Christmas).

it was just my 21st birthday and as part of my present my mum and brother sat down and scanned some photos of when i was growing up and made a video for my party. my mum spent ages finding songs to go with it and she then burnt them onto a cd for me to listen to, i love it, its now a playlist on my ipod (and consently repeated!!)
a couple of songs my mum 'gave' to me were You by Fisher, My Wish by Rascal Flatts. both beautiful songs that really pass on the message of love and devotion, parent to child.

Couldn't have survived those newborn days without my iPod! There are some wonderful songs on that list - some that I haven't heard in a while. I'm going to be putting an old iTunes gift card to good use this evening! Thanks Ali :)

When my daughter was born 3 years ago, I did the exact same thing. I didn't want things that were all "baby" music. I have several from your list but also: Daughters (John Mayer), Pink Moon (Nick Drake), Blue Skies (Lyle Lovett), The Good Night Waltz (Dan Zanes), Catch the Wind (Donovan), Lullaby (Jack Johnson), Into the Mystic (Van Morrison) and You Belong to Me (Jason Wade). I also highly recommend Bedtime with the Beatles - Jason Falkner - very good stuff! Enjoy!

I'm a teacher who plays a lot of quiet music in my classroom. I only play instrumentals because if the songs have words, the kids start singing instead of working! There are some wonderful classical things on iTunes. Mozart for Meditation; pretty much anything by Chris Botti; Phil Coulter; George Winston;James Galway, Flute for Relaxation; Most Relaxation Classical Music 1&2; Best of David Benoit; James Galway, Wings of Song and Quiet on the Set. These all make beautiful background music for anytime. I love it because after a while the kids in my class will start humming the classical pieces!

Oh my all-time favorite cd that my kids still listen to while falling asleep is a compilation that begins with a reading of the story "Guess How Much I Love You". There are then 11 other vocal songs and instrumental lullabies. My two favorite vocal songs from that cd are "Simple Gifts" (Tis a Gift to be Simple) and "The Water is Wide". The cd is on Amazon and you can listen to previews there too.
I absolutely love your page idea - well, pretty much everything you see through your lens.

I had theme songs for the birth of both my children, it helped me focus. These Are Days by 10,000 Maniacs for our sweet Niamh and Blackbird for our precious Fionn (who ended up with a broken collar bone in birthing, a little odd). But one song I always come back to is Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk (Canadian songwriter & singer). I seldom post, but love to read . . . thanks for all you share.

you have a great collection. I really love the Putumayo Dreamland CD, it is a beautiful collection of lullabyes from all over the world. I also have all of the Elizabeth Mitchell cds. One more suggestion would be Mae Robertson, she has a beautiful version of Godspeed.
