Music for Baby.
Tags:One of my recent projects was setting up a playlist for the ipod in Anna's room. It's nice to have some music on when we're hanging out in there or when she is trying to get to sleep.
I wanted a good mix of music: some new, some old, some for babies, but mostly mellow stuff that I like. A few of my favorites in the mix include:
Blackbird by Sarah McLachlan
Three Little Birds by Renee & Jeremy (special thanks to Deirdre - entire album is wonderful)
You Are My Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell
Imagine by Jack Johnson
Girl From The North Country by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan
New Soul by Yael Naim

As I was setting this up today I started thinking that documenting this would be a cool thing to do for Anna's baby album. I wondered if my Mom & Dad listened to music around the house when I was a baby and if they did, what were they into? I went to my Baby playlist on iTunes and hit print.
The cool thing I discovered is that in iTunes you can print out your playlist as a CD case and it can include some of the album cover images as well...perfect for then creating a page that showcases the songs on her babyhood. I printed the sheet you see above on photo paper and have it ready to add to a layout here on my workspace.
I would love to read your recommendations for good hang-out-with-a-baby music. Feel free to leave some of your favorites listed in the comments.
And the super cute felted bunny in the top photo? It is from a felted pattern called Wolly Bunnies designed by Marie
Mayhew available from The Yarnery. Seems like a perfect Easter or spring or new baby crafty project. I checked out their site and they also offer a full kit (vs. just the pattern) to felt two bunnies.

A warm welcome to my newest sponsors: Paper Relics and Scrapbook Circle. Look for giveaways from each of them later this month.

A - thanks so much for sharing your life with us. I have been out of work for 7 months now so some days are harder than others. Seeing you and that sweet babe remind me that miracles are still happening everyday and to TRUST GOD.
Here is another song for you "may I have this dance" by scott krippayne. My sister-in-law made a movie for me of the 1st 3y ears of my daughters life. Still makes me cry everytime I see it. Enjoy this special time with your family.

my husband and i are having a vague ongoing conversation about children and your post today made both of smile. we like to think we're a bit old fashioned and so the brave new world of baby music playlist made us smile. i think what would be the most interesting page would be your mother's baby music LPs, and your baby music playlist. made me smile, thanks for that.

Ali, you rock. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I am definitely going to create a baby play list for our newest addition.
Both of my girls listen to Jonathan Nicholson's "90 Days" CD every single nap time and bed time. He is such a talented guitarist. His music is so mellow and beautiful. Definitely worth giving it a listen.

Well, my baby is now 17 years old and graduating from high school this time next year. I am gathering stuff for an album about her as a gift and I am so excited to print her playlist from itunes! That will make a great page about her music right now. I wish I could remember what I would have put on my ipod in 1979 when I was a senior in high school! Thanks for a great idea!

I highly recommend Ingrid Michaelson - she's a wonderful musician, her songs are intriguingly simple and true. Some are good for quiet time ("Breakable", "Keep Breathing") and some are made for dancing and singing along ("Be okay", "Far away", "The hat"). Or both! Oh, the beauty.

Ali, I think you would like the song "Sweet Sweet Baby" by Michelle Featherstone. It's from the album "Fallen Down." You can find it on iTunes. It's a very mellow, soothing song with a good message. As a new mommy myself, it makes me teary when I hear it! :)

Such a wonderful idea, and what a great bit of personal and cultural history Anna will have. This had reminded me of so many artists and songs I love!
One of my favorite songs is Wilco's "My Darling". Perfect little love song to a baby.
Thanks for sharing this, Ali!

I had to go hunt for it, but I found it... And I'm didn't read through the other comments so I'm not even sure if it has already been suggested. I'm sure the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow has been suggested, but not sure if Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version has been suggested to you. He is no longer with us, but his rendition of this song is so beautiful and so sweet. I've used it twice in projects I've done for family. First when on a DVD for my daughters graduation from HS and second as background music on a DVD I did for my parents 50th anniversary. And yes you can get it on Itunes....
Hugs
Kelly
