Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway : Get It Scrapped, Transparent Touches, & Blue Moon Scrapbooking
Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.
Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!
Transparent Touches & Tags (TTT) is giving away two different prizes this week. The first winner will get to

My best tip is to just get it done right away and don't procrastinate. Always keep a good white gel pen and a good black pen handy too.

I have a 'thing' for index cards and keep a pack with me ALWAYS. When I think of something I want to capture for later, or the kiddies do something cute, etc., I just whip out a card, date it, and jot down a few notes. The notes are usually enough to enable me to type out the full story later during downtime. (They will also fit nicely in a camera case.)

I try to come up with a great title first and then I try to jot down my thoughts about the who, what, when, where and how.

I develop my favorite pictures on a quarterly basis (Library of Memory style) but I continue the practice I started when developing my rolls of film. For each event, I would take a 4x6 card and jot down the memories of the event. Now-a-days with digital, I have a file created which I go to after developing the pictures so that I can jot down notes and memories at the time I am filing the pictures. When I pull the pictures to scrap, I can go to the card or file and refresh my memory. Many times I am surprised by all that I had forgotten.

I like journal boxes. This gives my a finite amount of space to work with and then it doesn't seem so overwhelming.
I am just starting to use the computer and printing off the journaling. This has allowed me to say more than the "who, what, where and why". I am guilty of doing the layouts and telling myself I will go back and complete the journaling.
When my mother was dying 5 years ago I wanted to be able to give her the albums for the last 2 trips we made. I enlisted the help of my scrapbooking friends to put the albums together. I am still working on the journaling 5 years later but to look at the photos, at the time, in a completed album was a great gift, given to me by my friends.

i like to write a sort of stream of thoughts first and then organize them (or not) later. it feels very organic and real to me. i feel it helps me to not just tell the story but give insight into the feelings behind the story.
thanks for the giveaway!

My best tip is try to not concentrate on perfection - use your own handwriting whenever possible, and instead of overthinking what to say, just write as if you were talking.

Luckily looking at a photo can bring back the moment enough to recapture it. I have been keeping a small notebook in my bag to write down the treasures that pop out of teenage mouths.

I always write about things after they happen in an online journal and then when I am doing my layout I can just go back and reference the entry for information. It allows me to access not only timelines for events but also emotions and little things I might have forgotten as time passes. It's especially been helpful for all our vacations, when so much stuff happens that I can't keep track of it in my brain and I don't always have photos for all the little surprises along the way.

I always keep a journal and jot down all my thoughts. I think that is the most important for me. That way I don't forget what story I wanted to tell.

Nothin' original.....just DO IT! Write it down as it happens - in the car, at the dinner table, etc. My family is so used to me saying, "Wait! What did you say! That is SO cute!" And down it goes into a notebook (hopefully) or a post-it note (usually.) Then later on, yes, I think it's more interesting to journal TO the person the page is about. Don't just narrate the photos .....bo-ring. Speak from your heart.

When I write a story I pretend I am telling it to someone who wasn't there...that way I include details that I might not otherwise.

best journaling/writing/story-telling tip:
My mom suggested during my third pregnancy to buy a notebook for each child. everyday, a special moment or even a complaint, write in the notebook as often as you wish your thoughts. When your child is married you can pass down these books for them to have and look through. You can even use these when scrapbooking adding a picture to the memory.

My best tip is to write it down right away so that you don't forget the memory, or the way you felt or the cute thing that was said. Our minds are fleeting so just get it down on paper.

I journal in a notebook ~ little bullet notes that will keep my mind fresh for the time I do the page...what I thought was funny was when I really started to journal on my pages a friend asked if I had taken a new class ! Actually I used to journal on tags that were sometimes hidden behind pictures now I just write on the paper !!!

Write exactly what you would say if you were leaning over that person's shoulder, tell the story, share the details that you would gossip to a friend.
With teenager children sometimes hidden journaling becomes necessary but my aim is for my albums to live on long after me reminding all my family exactly how much I loved them all.
I am also greatly inspired by journaling challenge blogs and by Rebecca Sower's books.
