My advice to a new scrapbooker is you don't have to buy everything in a paper collection or every tool out there!!!!

Don't go mad buying supplies! LOL! Your taste will change so save some buying for later :)

I would tell a new scrapbooker to write everyday even if it's just 5 minutes and a couple sentences. Also to forgive yourself if you don't think you are perfect. I have 5 boys and tons of pictures [I still use film!] and I wish I had gotten the cute close up pictures of the toes 19 years ago but more so I wish I had written about our lives together because after # 2,3,4&5 came, the memory went!

My advice is that you should remember to have fun and enjoy what you are doing!

Hmmmm.....maybe that one should just scrap what they feel like scrapping. Wanna scrap today? GREAT. Feel like doing something from 6 years ago, fantastic too. Just do what inspires you!

my best advice is to not buy everything you think is cool. do research, ask to use other people's stuff at crops and figure out what works for you. i've wasted a lot of time (buying) and $$ over the years on stuff that i just didn't use.

Look at magazines and online scrapbooking sites for ideas and inspiration. Do not try and copy what other's have done. There is no wrong way to scrapbook - when your layouts and projects come from within you, it is always right! It took me some years to realize these important words - I wish someone had told them to me when I first started scrapbooking 12 years ago!

I would tell a newbie to journal, journal, journal. those thoughts and feelings are really important and you will want to read them later on.

Make the best of your mistakes, it doesn't have to be perfect. Don't wait for the perfect paper, photo, or embellishment, just get the story down!

My best advice would be to take it slow. Focus on your story. DO NOT run out and buy a ton of stuff. You probably won't like it in six months when you start to develop your style.

My best advice to a new scrapbooker would be to buy quality, no quanity. When I first started, I wanted "one of everything" so I would often compromise on the quality to have one in every color. Now, I have donated all of those THOUSANDs of supplies to a friend who teaches kindergarten and I buy what really means something to me and the project I am working on. While scrapping in chronological allows you to not miss events, don't let that stifle your creativity. Once I let go of that I was free to create. Now I find I go back to older photos, from when I first started scrapbooking I have a new perspective.
Most of all, enjoy the process of preserving your memories.

My best advice is to get some idea books, and not to get overwhelmed by all the supplies out there!

Two pieces of advice, don't feel like you need everything at once, purchase what you are going to use and the basics, otherwise you'll drown in supplies - and don't feel like you have to scrap in chronological order, skip around, scrap what you want to scrap! This should be fun with no deadlines and urgency to "catch up".

I wish someone had told me to buy more than one paper in each line so I oould have coordinating papers for each page or project instead of just one paper that I loved.

Try and keep your supplies organized from the beginning and don't buy everything that you see! There is no right or wrong way to scrapbook - IT'S YOUR BOOK!!!

You don't have to scrapbook every picture.

I wish someone had told me not to use smelly markers on acid-glue paper with plastic cover sheets! But really, what was a 6th grader to do? I knew no better.

I wish someone had given me your blog address when I first started scrapbooking! It is the first thing I tell new scrapbookers! "Check out what Ali has to say" My advice is to scrapbook the relationships and simple everyday moments that will be the things you want to remember years from now; keep is simple; and most of all ENJOY what you are doing!

My advice would be to journal on every page right when you are doing it. I have so many pages that I was going to go back to and now I don't remember anything about the event.
