Don't over buy--it's a scrapbook page not an embellishment ad----don't try to scrap in chronological order---just do what you love!

For me the important advice is that stimulate imagination and will facilitate the creation of the scrapbook.

I wish someone had told me there was no RIGHT way to scrap - I kept going to classes, crops trying to make my pages look just 'so' only to realize there is no right way, no perfect - Each page is perfect because you created it and documented your story in your own way :)

I wish someone had told me to just enjoy the process and not obsess about perfection. Once I got that, it's become much more fun and less like work.

I would have warned them that scrapbook supply collecting is addictive! I'm such a collector but rarely have time to scrap anymore. I would tell them to keep it simple. Get supplies that will work with different themes.

Start small. Just get the basics: a good paper cutter, some scissors and adhesive. Figure out what type of album you want, or what you want to put your pictures in and go from there. I spent tons of money buying everything I saw and a lot of it is sitting around getting dusty.

Keep things simple...buy papers that are not geared to only one theme. Just stick with the basics!!! Otherwise your stash gets WAY TOO big and you may end of never using some of the stuff.

You don't have to have all the embellishments and paper in the world. The point of scrapbooking is saving memories. Chipboard and glitter don't help that--your words and photos do that.

I wish someone would have told me it doesn't all have to be beautiful and perfect. Minor imperfections actually add personality and uniqueness and should be cherished.

your scrapbook style will change and evolve. don't hate your first layouts. Cherish your documented memories and reflect on your progress.

My advice would be to not worry about whether your scrapbook pages look like the magazines or on-line samples. Your style is completely your own and doesn't need to be like everyone else. And remember there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook!

My advice would be don't buy everything!! LOL! And also there are no scrapbook police so do what you like and makes you happy.

start small and work your way into large projects. Keep scraps they come in handy later.

You will have many stories to tell, so just dig in. It doesn't matter if this page or that page turned out exactly the way you thought. You will have plenty of other pages to experiment with and when you look back, you probably won't be able to figure out what you didn't like about a particular page - you will just enjoy the story that it tells.

Keep it simple. Work on one layout at a time. Get started scrapping and remember that there is no "right" way to do it! Always have fun.

I wish someone would have told me to use adhesive on the four corners and not all the way around and some in the middle. I have a ton of adhesive that way and it works perfectly.

Start with your most current and recent photos. No need to get stuck on the caught up bit. And stay true to what you want to show and tell. It's more important to get the story and pics down than anything else.

Don't think you have to scrap in any kind of order. Just scrap.
