I really wish that someone would have told me to buy just a few products, some basics, and then decide on the "extras" as I grew as a scrapbooker. I really wish someone had told me it is more about the MEMORIES I was recording, not all the latest and greatest STUFF! I wish I had back all the time I have wasted organizing the stuff I won't ever use! Now I scrap more, buy less!

I wish someone had told me about going to the LSS and trying out their tools before I bought mine. I found later that most stores will let you try their tools (they often carry the same ones they use for classes) and that way you can find your "fit" before you buy.

Paper, pictures, a good journaling pen, and a glue stick. Boom. You're a scrapbooker.

I wish someone would have told me to go ahead and use/cut up the pretty paper instead of saving it for the "perfect" pictures/layout, etc. Now that pretty paper is outdated, or no longer fits my style, and I feel terrible at the missed opportunity to use it to its full potential.

My advice is that there's no wrong way to scrap and you don't need all the fancy stuff to get started! That and don't restrict yourself to one size or medium.

I wish someone had told me that I shouldn't take being chronologically caught up so seriously. I have spent years agonizing over catching up before I could scrap the now. I have realized that my pages of the present are so much better because the story is still so fresh in my mind.

My advice is to begin with a photograph you love and tell the story you want to tell. Maybe the story doesn't even pertain directly to the photo but the photo captures something you love about the person.
