Yesterday we went to the Oregon State Capitol for Chris' swearing-in ceremony as a State Senator.
Chris was appointed to fill this seat by the local County Commissioners after Senator Vicki Walker was appointed to chair the Parole Board. It's been busy and exciting around here as he went through the process of seeking this appointment.
For those of you outside the US, this is the elected body that makes laws and sets budgets in our state (Oregon). We also have a National Congress that meets in Washington DC. They make laws for the entire United States. Each state has their own branches of government that mirror the set up at the national level.
Chris moved from the House of Representatives here in Oregon where there were 60 members to the Senate where there are 30. Chris represents somewhere around 115,000 people.

Governor Kulongoski presided over the swearing in (he's the same Governor I have written about before) and both Chris' and my Mom were able to attend.
Simon was most excited about the cake of course.
Loving this little family of ours and I am so proud of Chris.

Thanks for sharing your special family moments. I don't claim to "know" your family....but it seems in the photos and blog entries that little Miss Anna has brought a certain kind of calm to your house and family....which is amazing compared to the chaos that is in so many homes with new babies (like mine was!). Funny how God always knows just what we need.

So neat to have the pictures of the day, including the wonderful family shots. Of course, it's the last picture that is SO wonderful as you captured the interaction between a dad and his daughter. What a wonderful memory for Anna to pull out some day when she's older!
