Journal Your Christmas Giveaway

Jyc20092

The first time I did any sort of journal/creative adventure during the holiday season was Shimelle Laine's Journal Your Christmas back in 2005 (
check out my December 2005 archives for more).

My experience in Shimelle's workshop inspired me to create my first December Daily in 2007 that was published in my Studio A column in Creating Keepsakes magazine. The main differences being that I set up the structure of my album in advance (trying to keep it simple) and that I wanted to focus on documenting the daily activities over the course of the 25 days leading up to Christmas without specific prompts.

Over the last couple of years there have been lots of people that have combined the two concepts - creating a foundation in advance and using Shimelle's prompts as guides for page topics and inspiration.

It's a creative adventure I highly recommend so I thought it would be fitting to give away a spot to Shimelle's class this week.

One person and a friend of their choice will recieve a spot in Shimelle Laine's fabulous Journal Your Christmas online workshop.

Journal your Christmas is an online class that takes you right through the Christmas season, from the 1st of December to the 6th of January - the twelfth day of Christmas. Through 37 full colour prompts that arrive in your inbox daily, you'll be inspired by topics that let you enjoy this year's celebrations while reliving your very favourite Christmas memories, and you'll have plenty of ideas for making your pages with hundreds of beautiful examples from a variety of scrappers.

Instead of letting the holidays run you, a Christmas journal has helped many women take back their Christmas so they can enjoy and celebrate the magic of Christmas. Other class benefits include a printable Christmas planner, digital and printable supplies designed exclusively for class and a bonus guide to improving your Christmas photographs including easy-to-use tips from dozens of professional photographers.

To be entered into the giveaway please leave a comment below sharing how you plan to create a more sane holiday season (or more crazy if that's what you need). Comments will be closed on Thursday at 8pm Pacific with the winners posted shortly after.

We are looking forward to a quiet and simple Christmas. Just doing the things we really want to do. A few small lists may be involved! Thanks for this opportunity to win a place on the workshop.

One thing that I like to do to help is to get all my Christmas cards finished by December 1.
    Thanks for the chance!

    Focus on FAMILY and FRIENDS
As a stay at home mom whose youngest started first grade in September, I have been struck hard by the fact that time only seems to speed up as my kids get older. I have recommitted myself to the idea that it is the PEOPLE who matter. I have been working on my December Daily Album (It is almost done) where I hope to document, not so much my tree and house decorations, but the sweet things my kids say, Christmas stories from my childhood, and photos of my friends and family gathering from all over the U.S. So, I don't know if this focus promotes saneness or craziness, but for me it promotes an inner peace and joy that I know will be good for me this holiday season.

I've decided that what my mom's to-do-list for xmas that I grew up with don't match me or my family so I'm making a new one. Less pressure, less perfection and less stress. More time to do the little things together that creates good memories and new traditions for my family.

I think I need to make a priority list with dates of when I need to have each thing done by. Eeeek!

Many, many years ago I cut the Christmas chaos to only a few important things - the ones that mattered to us the most and it has made our lives so much better during the holiday season. I think this class would be awesome - so much fun!

How to create a more sane holiday season?? Shop early! I live overseas and do most of my holiday shopping on line. I'm already knocking out a good portion of my kids' wish lists.

Maybe I'm already late for the giveaway but just wanted to share that I'm planning some small albums to be decorated easily and simply focus onto the photos.
Family and travel images, thoughts and journaling.

I will be trying to focus on family fun instead of "things" and "stuff". I am tired (already) of hearing I WANT ___ FOR CHRISTMAS. I want to create memories, not clutter.

Almost anything would be more sane than last year's Christmas, with much of December spent in the hospital with my son with appendicitis & complications! Hope to make it a great holiday season for my teens without going crazy.

This will be my second year of making a conscious effort for a more sane and stress free holiday. I'm keeping it simple. Dinner, decorations, commitments...all kept at a minimum.

My idea is to start right now, capturing all the little things I do or see for Christmas already and extend my season as I normally have absolutely no time because of work in december...
    We'll see how it works.

    Hi Ali,
This year I hope to get all my shopping done early. That way I will have more time to spend doing fun things with my kids as Christmas gets closer.

For the past 20 years my husband and I have always lived away from our families. In all that time there has only been one year when we didn't travel back to our home towns sometime during the Christmas season. This year, will be the second time...we decided to use our travel time and money for a different trip we took in September. So, I know I'll miss spending time with our families over the holidays, but not traveling will make for a calmer holiday season.

I have a two year old and a two month old. I am very excited because this year my two year old will be able to really enjoy the decorations, the festivities, the Christmas songs...My plan is to take a lot of pictures and to write a little bit everyday in my "children's journal." Then at some later time, maybe with friends over a glass of wine, start putting a small album together.

Fun giveaway. I am hoping to do my shopping in bits and pieces, instead of last minute as usual. I've already started with a big trip to Toys R Us the beginning of this week.
