One Little Word 2010
Tags:I am a fan of welcoming the new year with open arms. I love fresh starts, new opportunities, clean slates, possibilities.
Back in January 2007, as a way to celebrate these beginnings, I started a public tradition of choosing a single word to focus on over the course of the year.
Many of you are familiar with this tradition and have been joining me in selecting a new word each year. If this is your first time reading about the idea of one little word I recommend taking a few minutes to read my original post here.
Here's a look at my words from the past three years with links to the original posts.
2007 :Peace [ read my post for 2007 ]
2008 :Vitality [ read my post for 2008 ]
2009 :Nurture [ read my post for 2009 ]
Essentially the idea is to choose a word (or let it choose you) that has the potential to make an impact on your life.
Maybe you want to invite something or maybe you are hoping to subtract something. Maybe your word will be practical or hopeful or creative or fanciful. Maybe you need a big word, something in-your-face that will challenge you everyday. Maybe you need something smaller and quieter that will whisper gentle tidings as you make your way throughout the year.
Whatever word you end up with, make sure it is your word (not your sister's, mom's, partner's, child's, etc). You can share it publicly or keep it close to your heart.
My word for 2010 is STORY.
I'm planning to do a post with more details on my thoughts about this word on Wednesday (look for the finishing pages of my December Daily tomorrow). I am hoping to use my word as a springboard for a variety of different projects and inspirations, in my life and my scrapbooking, over the next 365 days.
Have you chosen your word yet?

I have had my word for a while. I have CFS, Fibro and Lead Poisoning and this past year has been a struggle. My word for 2010 is 'Celebrate.' Celebrate who I am, regardless of my limitations, celebrate what I can do and what I have done, celebrate those I love and how I am finding love for myself in spite of all my health problems. Celebrate the world, my world, my friends and family. Celebrate myself....you get the idea. I am pretty excited about focusing on my word and all that encompasses! Thanks Ali.

Effort - that's my word for 2010. If I give a little bit more effort in just a few areas, it will make a big difference in every part of my life.
Thank you for doing this once again and giving us a focal point for the coming year! You rock!!

I haven't chosen my work for 2010 yet but was reflecting upon my 2009 word yesterday. I really feel that I was able to take that word and apply it to my life in a good way this year. Thank you, Ali, for all of your inspiration and the good you do.

my 2009 word was 'PEACE'. it was vital to my existence, and gave me something to focus on when the chaos started to swirl around me.
this year, i've chosen 'WILL'. i feel like i needed an action word this year. i have so many things i want to do, i'm tired of putting them to the side for everything else. there are things that i WILL do this year. it's all about finding the WILL to carry on through.
thank you for always being inspiring ali. choosing these words the last 3 years has been life-altering.

My word for 2010 is DO. For the last year (or more if I'm honest with myself) I have let indecision & procrastination rule my world and as a consequence I didn't actually 'do' anything. Until I started your 'Yesterday & Today' class in October I hadn't even completed a single scrapbook project (or any other creative project for that matter) for over a year. I am completely re-energised & motivated to get out there & do all of the things that have been left hanging in 2009....I have along list! Thanks Ali - you truly are an inspiration to me.

I am amazed at how the theme of Relationships (my word for 2009) wove its way through my life last year. I decided to choose relationships over stuff/clean house/keeping things the same/etc. I was blessed by deeper friendships, new people in my life, and much joy. This year, as I study discernment, my word will be LISTEN. I'm excited to see where it takes me in 2010! Thanks for the inspiration, Ali!

Merry Christmas!
This is my first year choosing and I'm going with "PATIENCE". I want to practice with myself and others. I have found as I've gotten older that I seem to have less of it.....maybe thinking about it more will get some back!

I am new to Ali's blog and have so enjoyed reading all her great ideas...this one included! So this idea of choosing one word for the year is new to me but I'm sure of my word...PREPARE. In 18 months I will be 60 and I want my 6th decade to be the best one yet so I'm going to spend the next 18 months preparing by getting healthier.

My word is JOY. I think it's time for me to focus on happiness from within, happiness that's not dictated by circumstances or external forces that are out of my control.

My little word for 2010 will be TODAY. I spend way too much time thinking of things ( mainly misstakes) made in the past and longing for things that will happen in the future (like our second child) that I sometimes forget the miracle of TODAY. Need to enjoy the moment more, need to focus on TODAY.

Wow, so many words to choose from. I have been contemplating a few of them. I like Choice, intentions, prioritise, but in the end I have settled on ACTION. I am rather lazy at times, in all areas of my life and all the good intentions have not changed that. I need to chose action and prioritise those actions. One at a time.
This is my first year doing this. Thank you for the inspiration Ali.
Happy new year from Australia. :)

My words for the past three years have been journey (2007), grateful (2008) and experience (2009) - and one big lesson I've learned from all of them is how fleeting time is. I have some big changes coming up in my life this year (I'm retiring, younger daughter graduating high school and moving out for college, older daughter moving across the country) and TIME is going to be my word. Making sure I'm being intentional with how I use it...and making sure I enjoy the moments because they won't be coming back! REALLY enjoyed reading everyone's words...thank you all for sharing.

We have the same word....and isn't it amazing how it fits so many situations? I would never have picked it (I was considering the 4th word in the Simple Abundance list) but it found me as I read through the comments...and now it seems so perfect. Good wishes with your focus in the coming year.

We need to form a "FOCUS group" to keep all of us accountable to our word for the year.
I love your listing for applications for the word.
