One Little Word 2010
Tags:I am a fan of welcoming the new year with open arms. I love fresh starts, new opportunities, clean slates, possibilities.
Back in January 2007, as a way to celebrate these beginnings, I started a public tradition of choosing a single word to focus on over the course of the year.
Many of you are familiar with this tradition and have been joining me in selecting a new word each year. If this is your first time reading about the idea of one little word I recommend taking a few minutes to read my original post here.
Here's a look at my words from the past three years with links to the original posts.
2007 :Peace [ read my post for 2007 ]
2008 :Vitality [ read my post for 2008 ]
2009 :Nurture [ read my post for 2009 ]
Essentially the idea is to choose a word (or let it choose you) that has the potential to make an impact on your life.
Maybe you want to invite something or maybe you are hoping to subtract something. Maybe your word will be practical or hopeful or creative or fanciful. Maybe you need a big word, something in-your-face that will challenge you everyday. Maybe you need something smaller and quieter that will whisper gentle tidings as you make your way throughout the year.
Whatever word you end up with, make sure it is your word (not your sister's, mom's, partner's, child's, etc). You can share it publicly or keep it close to your heart.
My word for 2010 is STORY.
I'm planning to do a post with more details on my thoughts about this word on Wednesday (look for the finishing pages of my December Daily tomorrow). I am hoping to use my word as a springboard for a variety of different projects and inspirations, in my life and my scrapbooking, over the next 365 days.
Have you chosen your word yet?

I think I´m going with GROW. Feeling unsure about it. In doubt whether this word can be combined with DH, kids and all, because I´m looking especially at it as personal growth. After such a time taking care of other people´s growth.

My 2010 word is FOCUS - I've been so scattered and I'm guilty of spreading myself too thin. It's time to bring it all back to what's important to me.

I believe my word last year was Strength, and this year my word is STORY. 2009 was a journey of lessons, heartbreak, pain, self-discovery, self-awareness, and bittersweetness. For 2010, I want it to be about my STORY of my intentions for the year.

My word has to be peace. Peace in so many ways, in so many parts of my life..just...peace. I read in a Buddhist garden in Thailand that "Peace is the ultimate bliss" and bliss was my last word, so...peace.

Ali this is such a great concept! I had never heard of this before but I think it's such a motivational way to start out the year. I have been thinking about it the last couple of days...my word is SIMPLIFY. I have two teens and two small children and a husband that works three jobs. I have a part-time job as well. My life and home just feel unorganized and crazy and it is time to take control and make life a little more structured and simple.

Focus. I LOVE and NEED my creative time, but always seem to have so many ideas, so many things I want to create, so many techniques I want to learn that I am easily distracted and fail to do/finish/learn anything. So my word for 2010 is FOCUS.

I think my word for 2010 will be: Change. I am getting ready to make a major job change, we are moving from one state to another and I am anticipating a 'life style' change. With my current job I don't really have time to have a life outside of work...I am looking foward in my new job (working for the same company but from my home office) being able to truly enjoy life to its fullest. Craeting a new 'normal' for me and my hubby.

Thanks Ali, I love this idea and my word for 2010 is Confidence. It's perfect because I am a new mom and I want to show my daughter what a confident woman is so she will always be confident in herself. Keeping her in mind will help me make decisions based on what's best for my family, not what I feel pressured to do.

We're in the same place Beatriz :) My word is 'create' too, for exactly the same reasons. Have a happy, creative 2010!

I have been following your blog for some time now but have never chosen a word-I could never find just one word. But this year my word is nurture- this year I will nurture myself, my kids, my husband, my work and my relationships. It makes sense.

I posted my word as "order" the other day. I was just coming back online to change my word to "focus". It kept nagging at me and I realized that without better focus, I'll never have the order that I crave so much.

My 2010 word is ENCOURAGE-
-My self to have the tenacity to become who I want to be
-My 6 children to do the best they can and be happy with who they are and what they have
-My Hubby to be happy and love himself
-All of us to be kinder and more positive to those around us
I also love the word SERVICE-something I'm planning on our family doing a lot of in the coming year :)
Hugs,
Gretch

My word for 2010 is BALANCE. I am going to strive for balance in all areas of my life...home, school, work, crafting, friendships, spirituality, family... so that I may enjoy each experience, no matter how big or small, to the fullest.
While I doubt that it will be a year completely free of late night work sessions to meet deadlines, I hope to reduce those times to a single digit number. (confession: I do secretly love the challenge of deadlines and work quite well when I need to meet them ;-))
A life lived well and whole heatedly is something I strive for, and this year I plan to concentrate on that even more.
