So hard to pick my favorite tradition . . . One of our newer ones is I have 25 buckets filled with candy hanging by garland on our mantle. Each one also contains a verse from the Bible about the coming of Christ. We read it together at the end of the day. Just a good way to focus back on the real reason for the season.

Creating ornaments to give to family and friends. It is a memory I have of my mom (who died when I was nine) and it is a tradition I started shortly after I became a mom. (Wet felted candy canes - inspired by felt cafe - are the ornaments this year).

On Christmas Eve we open one gift....when my son was a baby I had him open a book so we could read it at bedtime....last year I had him open a video so we could cuddle up and watch it together and will do the same this year (he is 4) and we will probably alternate between books and movies for many years to come, it is just a nice time to slow down in the excitement and spend a little "down" time together....it is a rare occasion that my little guy slows down long enough to do these things, lol!

Wow! Colorinc is really busy with giveaways this weekend! Our favorite December tradition is decorating the tree. Pretty standard, but the best part is when my boys put on their new ornaments of the year. :)

This will be a new tradition - in honor of my father who passed away this summer. We will be participating in the Wreaths Across America ceremony (http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org) at the veteran's cemetary where my father is buried. Our family will be there to volunteer our time to place Christmas wreaths at the headstones of our veterans - remembering them and honoring them during this holiday season.

Having a Christmas tree and lots of Christmas music! This year at the tree farm, I was literally crying tears of joy, because due to extenuating circumstances, we couldn't get a tree last year. But that's what bad years are for: they're there to make us appreciate the years when things are going well. :)
happy happy December!

We unwrap and read a different Christmas book each day in December. I also love having fondue for our Christmas Eve dinner.

We have several...one of them is having my FIL over Christmas Eve. We all go to the Christmas Eve service at our church where our 3 girls sing in the choir. My FIL spends the night and is there for Christmas breakfast and opening of the presents.

Not sure I can pick just one, but for the past few years my siblings and our partners have gotten together on a separate night, sans kids, to have dinner and open gifts. It's been great because Christmas day has been focused on our kids and our parents, so we take this time to do our exchange and have lots of laughs, of course!

One of my favorite traditions is everyone piling into the van and driving around town to look at the Christmas lights!

It's going to sound nuts but one of my favorite tradition is that we use actual socks as our Christmas stockings. Last year, my son's first Christmas, I "filled" his sock with a stuffed animal (the animal was wearing the sock). It was so cute to see the little socks and our socks of varying sizes, too.

My favorite Christmas tradition is setting up the Christmas tree with my husband and children. While we string the lights and place the ornaments, the movie "Christmas Vacation" entertains us in the background.

I hope this isn't posting twice! My computer shut down in the middle of my last post attempt.
My favorite tradition in December is getting together with our entire family on Christmas Eve for a big celebration!

I am all about tradition! As a mom of six kids, grandma of 4, and still a kid herself, I love all of the traditions we have as a family. One of my favorites-handed down to me from my mother and father-is having chili and cherry pie every Christmas Eve (although the kids have their own variations-turkey chili, cherry crisp, etc). The Blair family tradition! :)
