Hands down, Christmas Eve candle light service at church. Nothing warms the heart more than singing Silent Night with just the candles lit, no music, just pews filled with singing voices declaring, "Christ the Savior is born".

We love to spend Christmas day in our jammies --- just hanging out. The kids play with their toys, we play a continuous stream of Christmas music or movies in the background, and we have an easy day of simple meals.

It is so hard to choose just 1 tradition, however I really enjoy the xmas cookie decorating night, when all of the kids get together at our house and we decorate cookies-usually dec 23. The sneaky santa is pretty fun too-lots of laughs.

My husband reads Polar Express on Christmas eve. My kids are teens now. We take bets on how long before Daddy starts to tear up!

My favorite holiday tradition is St. Nicholas. My Mom did this when we were kids, a small something in our shoes on the Morning of St. Nicholas day. It helped remind us to be good and that the holiday really was coming. Now my two LOVE this as well. It's never anything big but always something they will love.

When I was growing up our family lived half way across the country from any relatives so my parents (and particularly my mom) had to come up with new traditions for our immediate family. One was the opening of the Advent calendar. Each child took turns and it was always exciting to see what was behind each flap. Even though DH and I don't have children, I continue that tradition for the two of us.

One of my favorite traditions is planning the stockings for my family to open on Christmas morning. My kids are in college now and this tradition is still looked forward to, but this year's request include index cards, coffee mugs, quarters for laundry, and air freshners for the dorm room.................oh, they grow up too quickly!!!

My childhood favorite tradition was going to Prange's Dept. Store and visiting with "Bruce the Spruce" an animatronic tree that had a super fun person hidden inside. He always knew just what to say to get kids' attention! Our NEW tradition is to do a charity run. I could NOT run a mile as a child. I was terrified--sick to my stomach terrified--when we had to do it in school. I will not raise my kids to be that out of shape. So, yesterday, my 5 yo son and I ran an entire mile together in a Holiday Hustle. We held hands and and he made it. With a promise of kettle corn at the end. I am so proud of him! And I won my age category. Woot! :)

There are so many this time of year. I guess today, I'd say the night of christmas eve-all the family events we go to, staying up late, lots of hugs all around.

We have several traditions, but mine would probably be attending the annual Christmas parade and looking at Christmas lights.

We always go to see a Holiday light display every year. I try to bring along hot chocolate & put the radio on Christmas music as we are driving through it to make it more festive. Even though the kids are teenagers now and may grumble about going (it's not "cool" anymore!), I still like going. Also, it's for a great cause, Make-A-Wish foundation, so you feel like you are giving back too.

My favorite December tradition? Staying with my parents on Christmas eve, and setting out cookies and milk for Santa. Then waking up early to set out Christmas presents! This year will be so much fun because my daughter's getting close to two. Last year she was too young to really care.
