When you really look at all the photos you have of your family, how many photos are there of YOU? I discovered after printing my family photos for the year, that I was only in a handful of photos out of over 1000 photos. Finding YOUR joy is my personal quest to better document my own life (and my quest to help you do the same). I would hate for my children to see all of our family photos and wonder where I was (when in actuality I was there…I was just behind the camera). This three week online e-journey will help you explore how to capture your own life in photos and how to escape from always being behind the camera.
Class begins September 7, 2010, and the lessons are emailed once a week and are presented on a private class forum website. Along with weekly lessons are free template downloads, video tutorials and photoshop and photoshop elements video tutorials. The class is a do-it-at-your-own-pace class….you can download the materials and do them at a time convenient to you. Along with the forum is an online photo gallery to share your assignments if you choose (but sharing is not a requirement).The class fee is $45. To register visit here. Recommended class materials include: a camera (any kind), a photo editing program such as photoshop or photoshop elements, a tripod (recommended but not required), and a desire to capture yourself and your life with your camera. For those who sign up, welcome packets will be emailed by September 1, 2010 with pre-homework.

I have recently begun taking self portraits and I'm loving it. It is so much easier than asking my family to take photos of me, but I do need some pointers so would love to win this great class. Thankyou for sharing your stories Ali, they are always inspiring.

What a timely give away. Just this weekend, my husband and I took the kids to the beach (freezing cold here in the Sthn hemisphere, but perfect for beach soccer with two active boys!). As I was snapping away, I had an epiphany moment - I am never in any photos (except for the occassional finger or leg and that is more by accident than by design!). I thought about handing the camera to my husband, but that felt too contrived and not in the spirit of spontenaity that the outing had taken on. Following on from this, I was thinking about life's incidentials, all the things that make us who we are as a family but that are never documented. This is so important to me, I know that in my children's hearts and minds they will grow up with the knowledge that they were treasured and loved, but I would like to leave them with a tangible legacy... this course would help me to develop the skills to do that... Oh please pick me ;) !

see, not only am I in need of this course, I am in need of a techonology update!!! Thought my first attempt at entering had disappeared when I did it on my iphone (see entry at 2.51am), so then did it on the computer (see above)... sorry, wasn't being greedy in applying twice, just wanted to make sure my entry was in! What a great class! I am finding joy in the fact that I am able to document my life through journaling, scrapbooking, and putting that together in an album.

This is so true - I'm never in the pics and I feel awkward saying - "here take a pic of me", and to be honest my partner takes TERRIBLE pictures - I rarely get ones that are in focus.
So this course would be reaaaally handy :)
