One of my very favorite memories of elementary school is my third grade teacher reading Misty of Chincoteague to the class. I would close my eyes and I could actually imagine being on the beach with the horses. I now read that story to my own children and it's just as wonderful a story.

Wow!! so many entries. my reasons are quite different from most of them here. School was my peace! A place I loved to go to get away from the dysfunction of my family.

How cute are these! Even grownups can have new school supplies!

I loved that my mom was my teacher! Being homeschooled the majority of my life...I look back and absolutely admire how much my mother had to learn in order to teach us every subject all while making learning fun etc. :)

Shopping school supplies what else!

I loved math class. Yes. I am a geek.

I loved having my friends around, and some special teachers who cared.

I wore a school uniform from kindergarten through high school, so new school clothes weren't anything to get excited about- I loved getting new school shoes though! I also loved covering my books with old grocery bags, which made them perfect for doodling all over during the year.

I loved buying new supplies for school. I went crazy this fall and got notebooks and pencil holders for all four grandchildren and some for myself as well. I also loved the smell of new books, could not wait to be issued all the new books for that year.

LEARNING! I loved the sense of accomplishment that came with learning new things.

I loved when I was the Teacher's Helper. I felt so important getting to run the attendance and any other notes down to the office, helping erase the chalk board and clean the erasers, collecting papers etc.

My favorite thing about school changed from year to year. I love the institution, learning and visiting with friends. In college my best friend and I loved the process of buying our own supplies. We would always save a small portion of our book vouchers for pens (some more useful for class than others).

I loved starting out with new notebooks and folders. I still do! I always buy extra school supplies for myself while I am stocking up for my daughter.

New wardrobe...it was always fun to go to back to school shopping... then wearing your favorite on the first day of school

I was one of those strange people that really loved the challenge of school. I love to learn, read and share ideas. I so wish I had time for all of that once again. Of course I had no idea how lucky I was until it was all over and I had to get a real job with real responsibilities and not so much learning.

I loved it when I could complete all my homeworkw while in scohol and come home with a free afternoon and evening! That was always my goal!!!
