More Layouts Incorporating Hand and Machine Stitching
Tags:
The layout above is available at Designer Digitals as a digital layered template.
As I was working on that layout last week with the hand-stitching I remembered that I had done an article for Creating Keepsakes a couple years ago on stitching (October 2009) both by hand and by machine.
Just looking back through these pages makes me want to scrapbook. Big time.
Here's a look at those layouts (click any image below to view larger):
Create a quilted home for embellishments by stitching fabric together:

Hand stitch embellishments with floss:

Machine stitch random lines:

Machine stitch a grid:

Machine stitch elements in a line:

Tie down emebellishments with floss:

Stitch lines for journaling:

Hand stitch words using floss and machine stitch shapes:

These have all been added to my portfolio.

Ali,
LOVE your layouts! Do you have a source for your fabrics? Or are they odds & ends you have on hand?
I LOVE the added touch they give!

The heart one with the 3 pics is by far my favorite layout EVER! :) I loved this one on your Y/T class slides last year. And I STILL think about it! lol. How great that it will now be in your portfolio for instant inspiration!

Thanks for this Ali. About a year ago I bought a sewing machine so, amongst other things, I could machine stitch on cards and layouts. Can I machine in the nice straight lines that I wanted to so badly? No! So my machine has sat doing nothing all this time. You've made me realise it doesn't need to be straight, and I'm going to get my machine out and have another go.!!!

Oh yes! Straight is totally over-rated!

Wonderful, I just inherited a Necchi circa 1950s and am having it conditioned right now. I can't wait to start doing some machine stitching!!!

Oh my stinking heck! You were born the year I graduated from high school. I now officially feel old! Clearly, I am old enough to be your Mother... old enough to be a Gma to a seven year old.... What was I thinking when I could jump high enough with joy when I became pregnant with twins...twins that are six years old.
Clearly, I am a "do it yourself" Grandmother. OY....now I'd better go lie down!

It was after first seeing that article that I finally took the plunge and tried machine stitching on a page. My machine is quite finicky these days, but otherwise, I think I would do it all the time. It adds so much dimension and texture. An awesome technique.
Thank you for inspiring me!

Love seeing all these layouts of Anna's baby days! Hope to see more... :) I scraplifted your "Generations" layout when I was in your Y+T class, I'll have to see if I have it uploaded anywhere. It's one of my favorites! :)
