Week In The Life | Share The Love
Tags:Hey guys - plans for 2011's Week In The Life project are underway. It's just about a month away from the start - July 25th through July 31st.
I'm working on new digital layered template sets (both 8.5x11 and 12x12) and I'm thinking about what I want my focus to be this year. The focus is always words + photos + a bit of stuff from life, but I think I might want to try to do even more writing this year.
Don't let the fact that I just wrote MORE WRITING scare you off. That's what I want to do...there's so many different ways to approach this project and whatever way you decide to do it will be the right way for you at this point in time.
This project can be done digitally or with all traditional supplies or with a mix of both. For the last few years I've been doing a mix of both and that's what I'll be doing again this year in an 8.5 x 11 format. I'll be sharing tutorials and such as we get closer - don't worry about any of that right now.
For now, just get it on your calendar and maybe start thinking about whether there's something different you'd like to incorporate this time if you're a veteran of the project.
If you're new to Week In The Life I highly recommend checking out all that I've written about it in the past few years. Check out the main page here.
As I prepare I wanted to invite you to share about the project on your blogs. Below you'll find new banners for 2011. Please link to http://aliedwards.com/2010/01/week-in-the-life.html (it's already included in the code listed below):
PLEASE NOTE | If you are having a problem posting the banner to your site, try manually entering the code vs. copying and pasting. There seems to be an issue with the quote marks and how they appear here.

Looking forward to it immensely. Posted one of the banners. Given the template I use and the blog plan I have, I can't post it to my sidebar, so I'll just republish the post a few times. :-)

I have started this project 3 times and never did completed it--I think since my kids are gone I am past the age to document everything.

Also, with the starting and stopping, I'd take some time to think about what happened that made you stop the last few times. If you're interested in doing it again how can you make it work for you? It doesn't have to be the same as I do it -
Hi Linda - there are definitely people participating who either don't have children or who have children that are now out of the house. What's important about this project is really celebrating the life you are living right now - regardless of your surrounding circumstance. It's about realizing that YOU and YOUR story are important and worth telling.

Hi Ali,
I will be joining the fun and can't wait. I do have a question. My PSE version 6 for Mac is acting up again and last time this happened I dumped it and re-installed it. Do you know how many times you can re-install the software? Is there a limit? I own the software and it has only been used on my Mac. Thanks to you and/or anyone who can help.
Replies
Hi Christine - I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to this. I don't think there's a limit on the number of times you can install but I don't know that for sure.

I'm excited! This is the first year I'll be doing both week in the life AND project life. So...it'll be interesting =0)

Me too Amy :). For me Project Life is more of an overview while Week In The Life is much more focused on the daily details of each day.

Woo Hoo, I'm in! I originally wasn't going to as I will be on vacation, but I'm pretty sure I can join in as long as I stick to digi (plus I always write a fairly detailed journal on vacation anyway). Thanks Ali; looking forward to seeing your digi templates!

oooh ~ do I / don't I ??? what a dilemmma ~ loved this project last year. tempted as it will be a record of pregnancy week 35 but we're just about to box up the house to let the builders in for two months and I'm loosing my workspace and most of our living space. trying to figure out how to be organised now so I can take part... any ideas?
Replies
As I will be quite far along with my pregnancy as well, I can totally relate to your dilemma, but would definitely vote for participating somehow! Don't you think it will be so crazy to look back at 7 days just shortly before another life enters this world? I do :) Packing and moving adds another whole dimension to it, so how about figuring out an extremely simple formula you want to stick to? I'm thinking along the lines of photos taken with a point-and-shoot or phone (or polaroid camera!) and some kind of pre-made journaling cards so you can simply jot down a few sentences a day. To make it easy, you could simply store all of your "stuff" in a folder with an envelope or sheet protector per day. I guess I wouldn't worry about getting your photos printed every day and maybe just tuck the collection away until you find a moment to pull it all together. (See my other comment #29 below - I still have to assemble my last two years of participating and still want to do it again ;) ). Hope this helps!

mmmm cant get the links to work???
what am i doing wrong...want to add it to my blog as a blinkie
Replies
where do I add the "...not working for me either...help :)
I must have missed one of the quotation marks because it worked when I tried it again. Yeah!
finally worked for me...adding the " by hand.....not sure what went wrong
I tried that, but it didn't work for me in Typepad. Any help would be appreciated.
I was having problems too. Deleting and manually entering all of the " in the code is what ended up working for me. :)
I can't get it to work either, Mandy--I have several other blinkies, so I know how to do it in blogger, but I can't get this one to work---bummer. Anyone else having this problem?

I feel like a wounded veteran with this project – I have participated twice, but so far, not one of the weeks has made its way into an actual finished album! All my collections of year one are still hidden away in envelopes (notes on scraps of paper and all), year two I adapted your route of digital templates but still have to get 'em printed. I will definitely participate again, but I'm just keeping it real ;)

Hi Ali-
I am finally going to take the plunge and participate this year. I am having trouble with posting the gadgets on my blog. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Replies
I copy and pasted it into my gadget box, then I deleted each quotation mark, then typed the quotation mark again. I did that for each quotation mark and then hit save. It worked. Thanks,
Hi EE K, I was having problems too. Deleting and manually entering all of the " in the code is what ended up working for me. :)

I've done this project every time and LOVE it. I've planned something a little different this year by making a handbound book to document the week. The book is made, scraps are assembled. Just need to get out all my favorite journaling prompts. Looking forward to your guidance again.

Hi Ali!
I want to share with you about a challenge. Fall is my favorite time of year so in 2006 I did a month long daily journal. Just as your project in a week I took a Target $1.oo album and journaled and few photos and included ephemera that fit the day of the writings. It was a challenge! The album size wad 4x6 no techno stuff like photoshop or digital brushes.I was amazed at the end result! I have moved two times since that album and came across it last week. I spent time going over the album and realized how lucky to have the chance to relive, laugh, critique and enjoy the piece of art. So this time I am excited to do a week in life with more photos and journaling, I love telling the story and have supporting photos and writing only enhances why I do this crazy thing called scrap booking...I like to think of myself as a life artist on the journey of Mother Earth. Once again thank you for your sharing and creative
expertise....and I still want to meet you at Creatvce Escape 2011 in Phoenix!
Hugs & blessings
Sharon

Ali, I recently took your Scrapbook on the Road class and would like to add your badge for that class to my blog, but I cannot find the code to do so. Can you direct me? Thank you.
Looking forward to WITL, although, I will be doing it a week later since I am out of country during the week that you have planned. Thanks for the inspiration.

I did find that on the main page, but not the code??

Ali, I really want to do this! EVERY year you do this I keep telling myself to just do it already and somehow I can never follow through. My question is, do you make your album ahead of time and then just fill in as you go?? I think it might help me stay on top of this project if I have my "plan of attack" already in motion. And it turns out my daughter got invited to go on vacation with a friend of hers for the second half of the week and I am concerned about that.. :-( I know she can include her own stuff but still.....
Replies
Hi - for this one I don't make it in advance (but I do know where I'm heading with the project because I use the templates as a base). During the actual week of the project I ONLY focus on the photos, words, and gathering stuff - no putting it together. The following week I start the process of putting it together - that's how it's worked for me in the past.
And about your daughter being away part of the time...my suggestion to you is to focus more on YOU. What's YOUR story from the week, what's your life like - you can include bits about her (both being gone and then adding in content from her if you want) but why not make it more about you?

I am really excited about this... I can't wait! This will be my first time participating so if you have any suggestions or lessons learned from last year, please let me know.
My husband is leaving for his second deployment to Afghanistan the first week of August and I think this will be a great way to document one of our last weeks with him before he goes.
I already placed a post on my blog about it with the blinkie.
