December Daily 2011 | The Foundation Pages, Part Two
Tags:Today I'm sharing my second set of December Daily pages for 2011.
You can view my first set here (I highly recommend reading that post before you start on this one).
I added a link widget to the bottom of this post for you to share a link to your foundation pages. I can't wait to start seeing them come together!
You can view all my images so far (shown in the image above) on Flickr.
And just a reminder, to me this album really comes alive in December when the words and the photos are added (and a few more decorations and bits of life). I can't wait for the opportunity to savor the days of December and document those stories again.
DAY TWO

The awesome letterpress number coasters arrived. I've been looking forward to playing with these numbers in my album. These are included with the Studio Calico kit. After finishing my foundation pages I've got three numbers left over that I'll work into my pages during December.
I used my sewing machine to stitch the coaster right on top of the Hambly transparency + ribbon combination.
On the page opposite the Day Two page (I look at them as a spread) I added one of the cool calendar pages that's also included with the kit. These are thick chipboard pages with a place for notes along the bottom. For this one I trimmed off the notes section and used Hero Arts alpha stamps and Jenni Bowlin Cough Syrup ink to add the numbers.
I'm thinking I might just keep that "loose" within the page protector and be able to pull it out and add to it throughout the month. I used a sentiment from my Studio AE November 2011 stamp set along the top (this is the same one I used on the outside of my album cover).
DAY FIVE

Five little glittered stars in one pocket (those were from Prima) + a number five coaster.
To trim the 5 I just laid it on my paper trimmer and cut back and forth a few times.
DAY SIX

American Crafts letter stickers (included in kit) stitched to keep them in place.
DAY NINE

Coaster stitched in place.
DAY TEN

Coasters. Cut each one to fit inside the page protector.
DAY ELEVEN

American Crafts letter stickers (included in kit) stitched to keep them in place.
DAY TWELVE

For this one I punched a circle from one of the chipboard calendars, added a chipboard accent (#12) from the Echo Park chipboard set, stamped using the Hero Arts alpha stamps, and stitched in place.
I did have to punch it twice to get it to go all the way through.
DAY FIFTEEN

Buttons, stars, a manila tag, American Crafts letter stickers, Evalicious vintage Christmas buttons. I did a bit of stitching on the manila tag around the 15.
DAY SEVENTEEN

American Crafts letter stickers + a coaster.
DAY TWENTY

Number button from Ormlou + a few glitter stars. Looking forward to adding more to these pockets when the day comes around.
DAY TWENTY-TWO

American Crafts Hardcover Silver letter stickers.
DAY TWENTY-FOUR

American Crafts letter stickers + a coaster.
A COUPLE NOTES
Hambly has added a page to their site with a selection of transparencies that are great for December Daily.
PRINTING | I received this message from Stephanie Beeson Bryan via Facebook: Hey Ali! I just wanted to let you know that I contacted Persnickity Prints today about printing your 6x8.5 layered templates for this years DD. They said the print could be uploaded to an 8x10 canvas so it wouldn't try to make you crop the image and that they would even trim to size too. Wow! Thought maybe some of your other followers who are using a print service might find this helpful!! I know I will definitely be using them!!!
12x12 layered templates and 8.5x11 overlays should be available next week at Designer Digitals (not this weekend). I'm hoping to wrap them up this weekend.

So conflicted. Digital or paper? Digital or paper? Last year, I successfully prepped my pages (digital) and completed a 6x6 book by printing my pages every couple of days. It was mostly journaling though with some pictures sprinkled throughout - it could have gone either way.
Argh. Guess that's why we start now ... so I have time to decide ;-)

Have been thinking about ways to mash up DD and my Project Life album and I think this post has given me at least the beginnings of an idea ... use the smaller journaling spaces and make little days of the month cards to put in them counting down the month. Add a picture, a little journaling here and there and PRESTO! YAY for number inspiration :)

So inspiring!!
Do you (or does anyone) have a suggestion for a calendar page or printable for a 5x7 size? I'm using chipboard covers/bookrings for my album so I don't have the kit but I love the idea of having the month at a glance in the book!

Hi Deanna! My album is also made of chipboard and rings, but it's 6x8. I didn't purchase the kit either because I have so much Christmas stuff, I wanted to challenge myself to use what I have. Perhaps you could use the calendars that come in the Junkitz calendar kitz. It's 6x6, but you could always trim the month off to make it work for you.

Thank you so much Ali! Love that Hambly has the overlays available directly on their site for us. I wanted those so bad and was sad when they were sold out at Scrapbook.com.
I haven't started my foundation building yet. Just gathering supplies but, it is already so much fun!

Hambley is a great company with great customer service. Shipping is reasonable and very speedy if you live on the West Coast.

That is exactly what I envisioned for a christmas book. I love the different ribbon used, the sparkle and the Hambly transparents and just amazing! I am so craving this, it makes me sad but I can't get to my scrapbook boxes. I've had all my stuff packed away since after last Christmas, for we've been doing reno's for almost a year. I plan on doing a book like yours in the summer. That really is the most realistic time that I may have my desk and stuff back. I miss scrapbooking and it's worse at Christmas. I really love all the pictures you put up. You have just the right amount of textures, patterns and sparkles to make me really feel christmassy :)

Love the pages....I'm getting really excited for my studio calico kit to arrive!!! I'm conflicted about getting the stamps....I want to but being my ocd/perfectionist self one thing that I have learned about myself is that I am just not good with the messy stuff if I can't get if perfect.....
so do i take the chance and spend the money hope I get it right and don't mess it up or try to figure out another way to make it work.....see i'm conflicted i love the calendar and your technique tuesday stamps...

I love the idea of you getting a small set of alpha/number stamps :). You can do it MaryAnn...and those would be great in PL too.

This is probably a crazy question but when you sew the page protectors or items onto the transparencies do you back stitch at the beginning and end of your stitch? I's just wondering if you worry about the stitching coming undone.
Love your album.

Thank you so much for the inspiration. I did DD in 2009 and it's my son's favorite album. I think I'll do it again this year because the '09 album is so cool. Wishing you only the best throughout your new year-happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Ali! I have a question on Dec. 24 is the Merry Christmas ribbon or paper and did you make it? I am loving your pages and my album is slowly coming together but I love the creative process of this project!

Hi Rhonda - I didn't and I can't remember where it came from originally.

Hi Ali-happy birthday!! Always great to have a weekend b-day. I'm working on printing out the overlays for this year and noticed there isn't a title page like last year. If I remember correctly, you made that available later, but was wondering if you think you'll have one again this year. The title page is so simple but sophisticated. I'm looking at my 2010 book right now (b/c I STILL have ONE more page to
finish!) and I love it.
As always, I'm so grateful that you share this project with us. It's always my favorite project of the year.
