December Daily 2011 | The Foundation Pages, Part Two
Tags:Today I'm sharing my second set of December Daily pages for 2011.
You can view my first set here (I highly recommend reading that post before you start on this one).
I added a link widget to the bottom of this post for you to share a link to your foundation pages. I can't wait to start seeing them come together!
You can view all my images so far (shown in the image above) on Flickr.
And just a reminder, to me this album really comes alive in December when the words and the photos are added (and a few more decorations and bits of life). I can't wait for the opportunity to savor the days of December and document those stories again.
DAY TWO

The awesome letterpress number coasters arrived. I've been looking forward to playing with these numbers in my album. These are included with the Studio Calico kit. After finishing my foundation pages I've got three numbers left over that I'll work into my pages during December.
I used my sewing machine to stitch the coaster right on top of the Hambly transparency + ribbon combination.
On the page opposite the Day Two page (I look at them as a spread) I added one of the cool calendar pages that's also included with the kit. These are thick chipboard pages with a place for notes along the bottom. For this one I trimmed off the notes section and used Hero Arts alpha stamps and Jenni Bowlin Cough Syrup ink to add the numbers.
I'm thinking I might just keep that "loose" within the page protector and be able to pull it out and add to it throughout the month. I used a sentiment from my Studio AE November 2011 stamp set along the top (this is the same one I used on the outside of my album cover).
DAY FIVE

Five little glittered stars in one pocket (those were from Prima) + a number five coaster.
To trim the 5 I just laid it on my paper trimmer and cut back and forth a few times.
DAY SIX

American Crafts letter stickers (included in kit) stitched to keep them in place.
DAY NINE

Coaster stitched in place.
DAY TEN

Coasters. Cut each one to fit inside the page protector.
DAY ELEVEN

American Crafts letter stickers (included in kit) stitched to keep them in place.
DAY TWELVE

For this one I punched a circle from one of the chipboard calendars, added a chipboard accent (#12) from the Echo Park chipboard set, stamped using the Hero Arts alpha stamps, and stitched in place.
I did have to punch it twice to get it to go all the way through.
DAY FIFTEEN

Buttons, stars, a manila tag, American Crafts letter stickers, Evalicious vintage Christmas buttons. I did a bit of stitching on the manila tag around the 15.
DAY SEVENTEEN

American Crafts letter stickers + a coaster.
DAY TWENTY

Number button from Ormlou + a few glitter stars. Looking forward to adding more to these pockets when the day comes around.
DAY TWENTY-TWO

American Crafts Hardcover Silver letter stickers.
DAY TWENTY-FOUR

American Crafts letter stickers + a coaster.
A COUPLE NOTES
Hambly has added a page to their site with a selection of transparencies that are great for December Daily.
PRINTING | I received this message from Stephanie Beeson Bryan via Facebook: Hey Ali! I just wanted to let you know that I contacted Persnickity Prints today about printing your 6x8.5 layered templates for this years DD. They said the print could be uploaded to an 8x10 canvas so it wouldn't try to make you crop the image and that they would even trim to size too. Wow! Thought maybe some of your other followers who are using a print service might find this helpful!! I know I will definitely be using them!!!
12x12 layered templates and 8.5x11 overlays should be available next week at Designer Digitals (not this weekend). I'm hoping to wrap them up this weekend.

Happy Birthday, Ali! Sorry to bother you on your birthday about this - are there 8 1/2 x 11 DD overlays? I just ordered the 6.5 x 8 and printed it out hoping to find a way to get rid/cover the hash mark for cutting. I'm doing 8 1/2 x 11 and would order that size but I didn't see those available on Designer Digitals and I just ordered today. If I could find 6.5 x 8 page protectors I would do that but its my understanding that those only come with the kit.

Yes - I had a few requests this past week so I'm working on them this weekend.
In today's post you'll see that Ali mentions she is making the overlays available in 8.5 x 11 and they should be ready next weekend. I too am making my album in this size and was happy Ali is taking the time to make the overlays in that size.

So I took the plunge today and ordered my DD kit! I am sooooo super excited to get it!!! Can't wait!
I am worried, though, that I won't be ready 12/01 or that I will not be able to keep up! I did the DD last year (my 1st time) and LOVED doing it. This year is my 1st semester in grad school (EEK!!!) and I am just worried about finding the time.
One thing I do know is that your work is soooo amazing & inspiring to me that hopefully that's all I need to get my DD ready!
Thank you for all that you do!
...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! xoxo

Ali, I love your book. I ordered the kit from CS.and waiting for it to come in.I don't sew, and am afraid my pages will look blah.
Happy Birthday! Jessica

Hey Jessica - I think you'll be just fine! Have you ever attempted hand-stitching? That might be something to try this time. My other go-to is staples - they would work well with these products too.

Love this kit but so sad to see you had to be a subscriber of Studio Calico to get it.
Replies
Hi Amy - you didn't have to be a subscriber to order a kit. They went on sale on October 28th and just sold out today.
I'm not a subscriber but I was able to obtain a kit.

I'm so disappointed that the DD kit from Studio Calico is sold out already. I hope they restock, or I will be one sad lady :(

Hi Amy B - I'm sorry you missed it - it went on sale on October 28th and just sold out today. I don't think they will be re-stocking but it never hurts to send them an email.

I am a little new to this, does anyone know where you can get the 6x8.5 page protectors? The studio calico kit looks like it is sold out. I really just need the page protectors.

Cool Karen - glad you were able to locate them!
Oh, I found them by themselves on Studio Calico, nevermind :)

Last year I made my pages and then real life happened and I didn't get a chance to put it together. This year I plan to use the pages I made last year. I'm so excited to feel ahead of the game this year!
Thank you for sharing your creativity with us, Ali!

Just went to the website and the December Daily kit has sold out. Is there any chance they will make more and can we order one? I should have ordered one a couple of days ago but didn't. Kathy (Australia)

Hi Kathy - sorry you missed the kit. I don't think they will be re-ordering but you could always email and ask ;).
BOO...I hope they get more in stock:).

Ali, I think your December Daily kit is a bit like Project 365 for Becky back in 2009. I think you should look at (in the future) producing a WITL and DD kit because after all you own these two projects. I know you like to do a new style each year for both and we love that about you but if you are doing all the work, you should reap the benefits. DD all sold out now.

Thanks for the feedback Kathy - appreciate the input and will think about that for the future.

One more thing, December is a very busy time of the year and people like the fact that a kit has everything and we don't have to individually source the projects. It's a big commitment and the easier it is for people to get in and start a project (and more importantly finish one) is a bonus.

Ali,
I'm new to the blogging world and to December Daily. I'm trying to add the Dec. Daily banner to my new blog and can't get any of the codes to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Replies
Hi Sheryl - what blogging program do you use?
I am using Blogger. When I paste the code, the picture will not show up on my blog, it's just a square with a red "x" in it.
Thanks!
Sheryl - I asked the question on my Facebook page and they were some suggestions listed there including another code: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ali-Edwards-Design/45067171994
Ali-Thanks so much! I got one of the links off your facebook page and it worked! So excited! Your help is truly appreciated!

I have a question. How did you get the pins out of those star trinkets? I have some of those pins and it doesn't seem like the pin will come off very easily. Did you just cut them off?
Replies
I twisted them all the way to one side and then back to the other side and they eventually broke off.

The kit is sold out! Are they producing anymore? I held off buying one last night to think about it, and now when I've decided they've sold out :(
I love the albumn you get in the kit.

Hi Cathy - you can email them to get on a list if they restock: info@studiocalico.com

HI Ali,
I finally got a real good look at everything and of course love love this. All the glitter, stars, variety of #'s going thru is really neat. My favorite is #15 and the candycane type letters. It really is magical already and once you fill it up it will SHINE even more. The ribbons you've added are so pretty, love the #24 one.
Couple questions?
did this kit come with paper or am I missing something? Would love to know what colors/PP they are going to be? Do you like these size/style of protectors unlike the small baseball kinds your use to using?
Thanks for everything and inspiring us!!
Replies
The kit did come with paper - I'll be using it during the month. I think there were six sheets. You can see the kit image here: http://www.studiocalico.com/kits/add_ons/486
I'm liking the page protectors - something different.

Starting my pages today. One question...is there an easier way to change the color of the outlines on the December Daily 2011 Overlays? I like the red but I'm debating between red or Burgundy.
Replies
Hi Barbara - any easier way than what? How are you attempting to do it now? I'm pretty sure the way to do it now is one by one (using the PNG files) because I'm not aware of a way to re-color all the pages in a PDF at one time.
