You Better Believe

The other night Simon asked me for a pen and some paper.

This is what he drew.

Not tracing.

Looking at a picture and then drawing it.

You better believe there was a whole lot of "Simon, that is so awesome."

I think someone might need his own sketchbook.

From one artist to a budding artist all I can do is smile and say: Go Simon Go!!

Now would be a perfect time to get him a sketch book and some "new" pens or pencils of his very own. You might even let him pick out his own sketch pad!

I always had sketchpads and markers growing up (my favorite "toy", if you will) and I still greatly enjoy getting to pick out a new sketch pad when I fill the last one! And there's nothing better than a new pack of pens or sketch pencils!

Thank you for sharing this Ali - Completely Awesome Simon!

Kids are the most amazing artists - they are not afraid to explore and go "outside the box" - they just create for arts sake regardless of the outcome - way to go Simon!

Way to go--Simon! Thank you for sharing this special moment in your life Even I got chill bumps reading it. That is a great gift, I've always wanted to draw and can't, but God has given the talent to my granddaughter. I just finished reading a book you recommended last year, "The Beauty of Different". I enjoyed it.

Go Simon - kids artwork is so amazing - my house is full of my childrens' work from when they were young. They have the ability to think and create "outside the box". Keep it up little man!

Annette - I've never seen him draw anything other than stick people until the other night. It was a complete surprise.

Awesome. You need to check out the Scribble Press App for iPad. It allows you to draw, color, and create your own stories. PLus you can share and print. My 10 year old loves it.

FANTASTIC!!! Lots of talent there! Encourage him to tell his own stories with those characters and then evolve into his own characters. It's the way MANY an illustrator/cartoonist has started out.

Wow! I knew exactly who he'd drawn even before seeing the book in his hands! Great job! I can tell that you are so proud and rightfully so, Ali! I hope he gets a lot of pleasure from this!
My son (an aspie) has piles of sketchbooks everywhere filled with drawings. His drawings are super small, but very detailed and always some kind of machinery or weapon of war. I don't mind the subject matter so much when I know he's enjoying what he's doing and draws such creative inventions. He really wants to grown up and be a weapons designer and I think with his ability to have intense focus, he might be really good at it. Anyway, have fun with Simon's gift!

this is awesome, encourage him by looking into art classes at your local art center. or even talking to his teacher at school, the teacher can even be more encouraging with his art work.

Awesome! An artist like his Mama! I have bought plain sketch books for my boys for a while. They love them. I have one who draws constantly. They are not using my printer paper, and I end up with a great record of their little hieroglyphics.

    Hat off to Simon!!!

That is how I started to draw and get interest to my artistic talent but I was probably a few years younger than Simon. It was about 6 for me when I got the bug also free hand drawing by looking at a picture... a budding artist!
