Stuff That's Been Lifting Me Up

These notes from the universe via tut.com (thanks Danielle). There have been so many that have been so completely right on.
This post from Tara. As real as it gets that one. Last week when we were on vacation I came as close as I could to a media diet. I want to do it again this summer for at least a week - turning it all off and just being for awhile.
Green house plants. I love fresh flowers but I'm finding that I get similar satisfaction from a fern. Any suggestions for favorite indoor plants?
The Who Do You Think You Are episode with Helen Hunt. I totally cried at the end.
5 Books That Could Change Your Creative Game via Todd Henry. I'm most interested in checking out The Everyday Work of Art: Awakening the Extraordinary in Your Daily Life.
The weather changing. Really that's a pretty big thing. Love seeing perennials I planted last year coming up again. Need to get some help with a bit of weeding. Dreaming of all kinds of things for my yard and really committing to spending more time out there this summer (not just working but enjoying and stopping always seeing something that needs to be fixed).

The Nester just finished a mini-series on house plants. Check her out at http://www.thenester.com/2012/04/using-plants-in-your-home-part-1.html It's a little long-winded for my liking, but she covers EVERYTHING. There's something about plants inside that add life and freshness to a room. Good luck!

I love succulents because I kill everything and they are super easy. If you have a good sunny spot it will do well. On pintrest I found some terrianium ideas which is a fun way to display the succulents.

Try closet plants! I have great luck with them flourishing in both flouresent light and low light areas. They are a beautifl lustrous green an droop compellingly when they need water (and perk right up after you give them a little attention!) Don't let them sit in water or the ends of the leaves turn brown. Good luck.

Ali, I think my favorite houseplant is the Prayer Plant. I think it has other names, too. So easy to grow-- nearly like a philodendron-- very hardy and doesn't need a ton of attention. I like the way the leaves close up in the evening, reminding us that the hard work for the day is done and it's time to reflect and say our prayers. Then in the morning, when the sun opens the leaves again, this plant tells us it's time to re-emerge and get busy with life.

I have African violets. They are so easy if you buy the violet pots because you put the water (once a month) with fertilizer in the bottom pot, then put the violet pot in the top. Some people say to remove the water after an hour of letting the top pot soak, but I never do. Mine are thriving. I put them in a window with light but not direct sunlight. Pinch the flowers off as they start to wilt. Easy and beautiful!

Ummmm....indoor plants let's just say thank goodness for my mother-in law that waters them for me when she watches my kids, I have not mastered them yet. The whole media diet, well people think I am crazy, we do not have cable, and the kids (4 and 8) are only allowed to watch a movie or play some video games Friday night to Sunday night. During the week we encourage focus, family time ,dinner time outdoor play reading and early bedtime...they appreciate their video games and movie/t.v time so much more...in the beginning it was so hard with no cable, and the kids didn't know what to do...this is why I have so much time to scrapbook, other people watch hours of television I scrapbook. Good luck...love your blog posts, always close to home very well written. hug, monica

Didn't have time to read all the comments, but a pothos plant is my all time favorite indoor plant. Doesn't take much light. As long as you keep water in it, it grows and grows and you can wrap it around whatever you want. AND if you don't happen to have potting soil, just stick it in a jar of water and it'll grow with no dirt!
