One Little Word 2013

My word for 2013 is open.
Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.
Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.
I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.
I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.
Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.
And what do you do with this one little word?
You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.
I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.
If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP
Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.
Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.
People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.
This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the course of the year.
The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

ANYTHING: This year I am open to ANYTHING. I have plans to accomplish things I never dreamed while at the same time I am facing some major uncertainties that would completely change my family. No matter what you think you know ANYTHING is possible.

My word is going to be SELF.
I don't really like the word, because it reminds me of selfish, but it keeps coming back to me every single time One Little Word comes to mind.
So- I'm going with it.
Take better care of myself.
Trust myself.
Be MYSELF.
Be the best self I can be, so I can be better for my children.
SELF.

My word is PREPARE. It's actually the same word I had this year, but I feel it's not done yet. I feel like I accomplished part of my goals, but some of the rather important ones I still wasn't ready to tackle. So, it's a two-year word for me.
I love OPEN. Such a lovely word for you.

My word for 2013 is PURPOSE. To live each day with Purpose and not to just float along. I'm looking forward to each day's purpose and what things I will learn from it.

My word this year is Trust.... its a word that has been coming to me for the past couple of weeks as in 'trust the universe' 'trust your heart' 'trust your feelings' and, most importantly 'trust that life will take you where you need to be' ... and so, I am trusting and going with the flow and consciously NOT trying to force things to happen, knowing that what needs to happen will happen....

This will be my first year for One Little Word, and I am excited at the possibilities! I haven't really been actively seeking a word, but while brushing my teeth this evening it came to me..."follow-through". I am the queen of half done...projects, diets, budgets, exercise, you name it and I have a plethora of unfinished items lying about. This year I will commit and follow-through, and I am super excited to see where this will lead!

I'm not completely set on this word yet but as of this moment I'm leaning towards Celebrate.

Celebrate is a great word! So little time is given to some of our smaller accomplishments. We don't pat ourselves on the back enough. If we made more of an effort to celebrate the big and the small I'm sure life world be so much happier.

In 2012 my word was energy but it VERY quickly fell away as I dealt with unsuccessful IVF and a whole journey of depression and anxiety surrounding that. So the year really turned into survive. For 2013, I actually don't want to set my goals high. I don't feel strong enough. I just want to be. I want to focus on it is OK to be me and that my life and my family are OK and valid. I have not decided yet but I am tossing around be, breathe and wellness. Can anyone think of a word that encompasses "It is OK to be me?" Does 'be' do that?

How about embrace? You will embrace what will be. Happy new year!

My word kept changing between courage and nourish. I realized they both contain the word 'our' and was reminded of my OLW a couple of years ago (flourish); then it dawned on me: "encOURage".
I need to encourage myself to be- not only brave- but nurturing, patient, gentle, present, mindful and caring- towards myself...especially if I'm to encourage my 3 kidlets!

Mine is MINDFULNESS. We have a new member of our family and I need to carefully consider what I want to do with my even more limited free time, and how we can maximize our time together.

My word is 'release' - finding release for creativity and giving my imagination free rein, but also releasing my grip on the familiar, breaking free from the rut, letting go of things that weigh me down.

I'm trying to decide between two words "push" or "patience". Push to push outside the box test what I'm capable of and sometimes push outside my comfort zone. Patience to relax and enjoy what comes to me and where I find myself. That I don't need all my answers now and good thing come to those who wait, right?
I like the idea of both and trying to figure out which one best suits me for 2013!
