I finally decided on my word! Yay! I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks and just wasn't finding the right fit. I kept thinking I wanted to "not waste" but couldn't think of the right word. Turns out there's a Portuguese word that's perfect. (I learned Portuguese as a missionary almost a dozen years ago) The word is APROVEITAR and it means "to take advantage of" So I'm going to take advantange and not waste or take for granted the time, resources and relationships I have. Thank you!! (and just for fun, my words for the last two years were DO and RECLAIM and they were great)

My word is FLOW. It's so perfect for me that I have to wonder what I'd choose if I do this next year? But life flows on.

My word is FOCUS. I see that it's already on the list.
I need to focus on my life. I've fallen into the roll of problem solver in my family. It's exhausting. So I'm going to FOCUS on what I need to be happy and not worry about everyone else. I've put my wants and needs on the shelf for many years and I think it's about time I review them and see what I can make happen in my future.

My word is gently. My thoughts turned back to OLW after reading a post over at YourHomeBasedMom's blog when she talked about her word for 2013. It took a little while for the whisper to come, and just now I think it finalized itself. There's so much I want to learn, to become, to do, and ways I want to grow . . . but it all has to come gently. I have powerful habits to the contrary . . . whether trying to force things, or work too hard, or control things when I get out of control, and I just want, so much, to gentle myself, like one gentles a horse.

Thanks so much for running OLW again this year. It's a wonderful thing, and I can't wait to do it!

My word this year is USE;ful. I have been blessed with so much. Time, energy, even some talent. I don't want to be guilty of wasting anything. So I want to USE what I've been given to be a person of benefit. Someone who is USEFUL. If that makes sense.

My word is "chances". I want to stop being afraid to try new things. I can live with the fact that I failed at something, but not the question "what if". I was going to go with "fearless", but I think it is OK to be scared as long as I face my fear head on. Besides, what is the point of trying something new if I am not even a little bit afraid of it!

I chose the word "Conscious." I first latched onto intention, but that was a pretty ubiquitous word, and didn't seem to lend itself to the level of specificity that I wanted. "Present" was also fairly overarching and didn't speak to actually acting on what I want. I moved through "choice" (and it's siblings, "choose" and "choices"), and finally landed on CONSCIOUS.

What I want is to be all of the things noted above (intentional, present, and making choices), which seemed to wrap nicely up into my word, CONSCIOUS. :)

Thanks to everyone for sharing, this is beautiful.
