They always seem to know when you need them. So sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is always heartbreaking no matter the circumstance.

I am so sorry about Lily, Ali. My heart goes out to you. There is no more stalwart and loyal companion than a dog.

Ali, I'm so sorry. I lost my little old man, Barkley, after fourteen years. He was one of the sweetest gentlemen I've ever known. After his death I was surprised when I would walk out my office and could hear him following behind! Or when I would walk into a room and could smell his doggy shampoo. Long term pets that live in our homes seem to be a little more "human" than can be explained. Be good to yourself, have ice cream. Again, so sorry, J

It has to be hard to think of all the good times and love when you're already missing her so much. I agree with you that she pulled through to be there during your toughest stretch. We just lost our seat Gunner, a 12year old yellow lab. I know your sadness. There is a hole in my heart right now. I still come downstairs in the morning and expect to see him in the big chair, where he would watch my every move. The healing is slow sometimes.

So, so sorry for your loss. Our 12 year old Golden Retriever is fighting cancer right now and everyday I wonder if it will be his last. Please know that you, Simon & Anna are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ali I'm very sorry for your loss. Saturday morning we lost our little Cookie. She was a beautiful Cocker Spaniel. She gave us 13 wonderful years. Friday night I brought her upstairs and put her next to my bed where she always slept. She was very frail but got up and walked to my daughter's bedroom. She stayed with her for a few minutes and came back to my room. I feel she wanted to say one last good by to my daughter. The next morning my daughter told me that she talked to Cookie and told her it was OK to let go, not to be afraid and that she loved her. She passed away at 5:30 Saturday morning. Our little doggies come to this world to teach us so many lessons, the most important of all is unconditional love.

Ali - I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is so hard to lose a loyal companion like Lily. As my dad has said each time we lose one of our furry friends "God only lends them to us for a short time". I think you are right that she hung in there a bit longer to get you through a rough time. Dogs are little furry angels.

Sigh....that is hard, but to go peacefully after a wonderful beach run? who could ask for more? A major life lesson for the children. Hugs to all.
