One Little Word® 2018 | Space

My One Little Word® for 2018 is space.
Since 2006 I've been choosing a word to focus on over the course the 12 months from January through December. My past words have included:
Play
Peace
Vitality
Nurture
Story
Light
Up
Open
Thrive
Give
Whole
Connect
For 2018 I'm looking to get curious about the idea of space.
The word "space" has quite a few different meanings, from an interval of time to a continuous area or expanse which is free, available or unoccupied to the dimensions of height, depth, and width within which all things exist and move (outer space) to the freedom and scope to live, think, and develop in a way that suits one.
What I'm interested in inviting into my life this year is some breathing room. I find myself regularly filling things up: time, physical space, projects, etc. I want to see what it feels like to have "room" for thinking and dreaming and learning and moving at a slower pace. I want to pay attention and begin to recognize those times when I'm unconsciously filling up the space and learn to pause before continuing on auto-pilot.
Simply put, what I want to do this year is create more "white space" in my life to pursue what really matters most to me.
Companion words - words that are also speaking to me - this year include: wonder, less, ease, and slow.
I'm really looking forward to experiencing life with this word in 2018.
TAKE A LISTEN
I recently recorded a podcast with Elise on Elise Gets Crafty where we chat about our 2017 and 2018 words. Take a listen here.
SHARE YOUR WORD IN THE COMMENTS
I’d love to read what word you’ve chosen or are considering for 2018. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. Next week I’ll combine all the words into a single post – it's become tradition and super inspiring to see all the words in one place.
If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word®, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

JOIN ME IN MAKING OUR WORDS VISIBLE
To help keep your One Little Word® more visible throughout the year I offer a year-long workshop featuring one creative prompt per month. Read all the details and sign up here. You can watch a video walkthrough of my past album projects here. Registration is $5 off until December 31, 2017. I've also created a selection of products to help you document your journey with your word - check those out here.
My wonderful little heart talisman in the photo at the top of this post is from Liz Lamoreux and is available on her site as part of her Pocket Talisman Collection.

My word is CALM. 2017 was anything but calm. In 2018 I'm looking to reclaim calm in my heart and mind as well as in my home.

My 5th year and my word will be LIGHT. I want to lighten up and play more, stop being serious and let go of control and say yes to my son more; learn about light and explore my photography; learn how to use Lightroom; reduce/simplify the amount of stuff I have/do; lighten my body and lose the 10kg I gained stopping smoking!!; and I think most importantly become lighter as in let go of past baggage. Really am going to need a year to explore this word! 😊

Lisa, my 2017 word is joy, and one of my intentions was to say yes to my 13 year old daughter, and it was one of my most successful intentions. You will feel lighter! :)

My word this year is “design”. Design means making more time for art and taking art classes. It also means examining my life and making positive changes.

Reach. Reaching my goals, not just making them, reaching outside my comfort zone, reaching out to the people in my life in positive ways, the act of reaching (or stretching) myself both physically and mentally, exploring the process of reaching my potential without becoming discouraged. To reach something can be an end point (achieve, arrive at) and it can also be an action in progress, moving beyond a pre-defined boundary, so when I feel stuck reaching and looking for a way forward. This lends itself to reaching out and asking for help when I need it. I also am interested in developing strategies for staying positive and patient and focused when I feel I have reached my limit.
This is my 3rd year of participating in OLW and this is the most connected to a word I have ever felt. Thank you Ali for this project - it has very literally changed the way I view the start of a new year and approach my for life for the following 12 months. Bring on 2018.

After two years sticking with ACCEPT, I’ve chosen GROW for 2018. I not only want to grow personally, but also get back to growing flowers and vegetables.

My word for 2018 is Story. I want to really reconnect with my story in 2018 - telling it, preserving it, adding to it, living it. My life, my story and I’m the only one who can tell it.

My word for 2018 is COMMIT. There are a couple of things I need to get serious about that I've been ignoring for too long. So COMMIT it is!

My OLW for 2018 is joy. I turn 50 this year, and there are a lot of parts of my life that are unfulfilling. I have been a big "I'll get to ------ someday" person, but approaching the mid-century mark has made me realize there is no more time to wait for "someday" so I decided it was time to create and focus on those things that bring me joy.

Heal. When I chose it I was thinking entirely of physical healing, but the more I delve into it, the more I realize there are other parts of my life that need healing.
