Tags:The trees were in full color in Sunriver this weekend. Everytime I go there I dream about a day when we could have a place there...a getaway. I also had a fantasy of being able to stay there while writing a book. A quiet retreat. Maybe someday...
Seriously had an amazing experience at the Oregon Summit this weekend. I am thinking that this blog is probably not the place to talk much about politics, but it looks as if it is going to become a big part of our lives around here for the time being.
Chris has decided to run for the District 14 seat for the Oregon House of Representatives. We attended the Summit weekend for the chance to connect with other Democrats, including many state leaders. It was so, so cool. Chris was excited and I was excited.
One of the things that really hit me was a reminder of why I fell in love with Chris ten years ago. He likes to be involved. He cares about what is happening and likes to take a leading role. We were both involved in student leadership stuff in both high school and college. It was something we connected on...something we could discuss...something that got both of us fired up. Loved seeing that part of him, and in a lot of ways that part of me, again.
I am sure it will be an interesting ride. Crazy. And a lot of work. And man it is awesome to see him feeling that passion bubbling up inside of him again.

Crazy? Yeah, probably. But good people, with passion is what we need. Good luck to Chris and to you -- it should be interesting!

Sounds like you had a great time at the summit. I love talking politics. It is great he is getting involved, it so awesome that we have power within us to begin to effect a change in the status quo! Good luck!

Hi! Ali! I'm typically just a lurker everywhere I go, but I wanted to let you know that I am so excited for you guys! I don't pretend to know/understand a lot about politics at all (despite the fact that I work for a US Senator!). However, a good friend of ours ran for the State Senate in our District during the last election & I got to see a lot of what he did on a daily basis...a lot of time was devoted to his campaign (oh yeah...money too!!). Best of luck to Chris (and you) as you begin this journey! Please update us regularly about the campaign. :)

As far as I'm concerned, you can talk Democrat politics all day long :) But, I guess I'm not the norm among scrappers...

Ali, I am probably of the other political persuasion in US politics (although it differs somewhat to our system here) but I really admire people who feel strongly enough about what they believe that they take a role in making change. I wish you all the best!! Kass

You already know this, but I am so, so happy for Chris! Tell him his Texas buddies are rooting for him. "It's the same thing! You have to go door to door!" bwahahaha. ;)

I wish Chris lots of luck in the race! Both my dh and I met doing campus leadership activities in college... so I know exactly what you mean about seeing the passion. My husband now runs his own polling firm and has helped to run campaigns as his first job out of college (loong ago) so I know how CRAZY things might get in the upcoming months. Hang in there... and keep creating... it will keep you sane!

My husband "got his feet wet" in town government by running for the Budget Committee here in town last year and winning. He's decided that he wants to run for Selectmen in the next election, and is full of enthusiasm at the prospect! Best of luck to Chris!

My parents are in your district!!! Let us know about his website when that is set up. Good Luck-done a lot of politics myself and glad someone "good" is taking the torch-we need someone here in Oregon. My DH and I are typical urban Oregonians (thus not a typical scrapper) and have never strayed across party lines even for Mark Hatfield-you Oregonians will know what I am saying. Go Chris and Ali!!!

ali, just want to add my congratulations to Chris' big step. i'm thrilled for your family and wish you the best. and i see no reason not to talk politics in your blog, especially when it's hitting this close to home. i've read Chris' blog from time to time, and he seems to be the type of person who truly wants what's best and who can also think for himself. if you can influence more people to be open to that, all the better.
sincerely, your blue friend from a red state.

Beautiful picture. The leaves are changing, gradually over here too. It was fun taking a couple of drives and a little hike this weekend. Getting to be among the trees as they are changing color. Partaking in the crisp fall air and having a jolly good time in the process.
