Up and running.
Tags:Feeling much better today. Internet is set-up here at the new house. Transferred all my computer stuff over here last night, hoping to get the rest of my scrap stuff today. I will take some photos once I get set-up - that will probably not be until the beginning of November.
Today I am going back and forth between putting things away here - carefully selecting the stuff that we "really" need and packing up/donating the rest. Feels good to be simplifying. Chris and I had both been wanting that...feeling it was time...that we had a bunch of stuff that was weighing us down. Putting away our plates the other night I noticed that we have 24 plates. THREE PEOPLE LIVE IN OUR HOUSE! I can see having that many if we did a bunch of entertaining...but that is just not happening right now. Even then I think I would want to use paper plates or something LOL. Needless to say, some of our dishes will get donated. And it feels good.
Anyone have a creative solution for storing your microwave? We have limited counter space and a microwave that is much too big for the counter. Just makes the whole space feel smaller.
A couple cool things here in the new place. First off, digital cable. This is SWEET. We have "on-demand" which means we can watch Jon Stewart's The Daily Show whenever we want LOL - and it is also on here at 8pm rather than 11pm. HAPPY.
Another HAPPY, wireless internet here in the duplex. ROCKIN. Now I can have my computer back - Chris had been on it recently and it raises my blood pressure when anyone but me is on my computer. I can really lose it when anything wrong happens on the computer - totally unreasonable! Oh well, it has to be something :).
Back to cleaning, packing, unpacking, and working.

We used to store our microwave on top of our refrigerator. It works great unless you are short...Have fun unpacking!

Love to read your updates! Finished the first Today You album from Saturday-now on to the 2nd.
We did several microwave things:1-lived w/o (don't recomend), 2-put in basement (lost weight running up and down the stairs), 3-neighbor gave us a smaller one, 4-finally bought one to go over the stove-love that!
We have 35 plates and 4 people-they all match (the plates not the peopler) and I never worry about running out of dishes. But I did get rid of most of kitchen utensils-I had drawers full of them and more in utensil bins on my counter-now I have maybe 12 in two drawers and there is enough room that they don't even touch.
This weekend was wonderful-I really enjoyed the classes. Thank you.

We have the same problem with our microwave, which I haven't yet solved, but I saw a photo of a kitchen redo that included the microwave installed over the range. There was a fan installed under it to vent the range. When we remodel, that's my plan. I don't know if something like that is a possibility now that you are in a rental, but using that idea, look up. Is there a shelf or bookcase you can set it on top of? From another angle, how often do you use it, really? Could you hook it up in the garage or another room, or just unplug it entirely, if you hardly use it?
Where are you going in the Netherlands? I have some saved travel tips for around Amsterdam, including art supply stores, etc. Let me know if you'd like me to forward. I love Amsterdam - it is an amazing, beautiful, friendly city.

you go girl. You are dealing with this so head on!!
Try Target for a cheapo microwave cart. Will give you a wee bit of storage underneath if you have room for something like that. Is there room on top of your fridge? good luck!
Can't wait to see the new studio....

We have the same counter problem. Right now, ours is just sitting on the counter, because we needed it, but eventually we're going to do one of the ones that installs over the stove.

Congratulations on the move! I can't imagine how overwhelmed I would feel if I were in your shoes right now (moving, teaching, traveling, mothering, etc.)
If putting the microwave on top of the refrigerator doesn't work out well, do you have an open wall where you could hang a sturdy shelf for it? Maybe over the key/mail holder or something. In my last place, I probably had about 4 feet of counterspace in a galley kitchen, so I understand how precious couter space can be.
Good luck and have fun in the coming weeks. (Just so much fun to travel.)

Moving is tough, but you sound like you're holding it together rather nicely - unless you are posting under an alternate personality, you know, like the "unreasonable" computer girl one LOL. Hope you get everything into place soon so you can relax! (my suggestion was also to look into microwave carts or over the stove) Hope you have SO MUCH FUN in the Netherlands!J

We keep out microwave ontop of the fridge too....but we dont use it that often...mostly to just melt butter for popcorn...if you have cabinets ontop of the fridge the cart is a better idea obviosly :-)

Hey Ali!
I can totally relate to the kitchen counter space issue - my microwave is also on top of my fridge. It works great up there!
Good luck in your new place!

First off ... can i say WOW!! I don't know how I found this but I am repying to ALI EDWARDS blog!! Wahooo! Not only that, look at all the names of responders that are scrapbooking greats! (if I may toot your well deserved horns, lol)
Once upon a time, we put our microwave under the counter. We didn't use it that often but it was worth the bend to keep it hidden and not take up valuable counter space.
I don't know what kind of space you have but have you thought about a microwave stand or shelving unit? You could always paint it to match your decor and/or put a curtain across the shelf that has the microwave to hide it. Using a curtain rod, velcro or snaps would make the curtain easy to move when you need to access it.
Thanks for blogging. I feel like i just met a celebrity LOL.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not the only one who is a freak about the computer. And we do share it really but.. for some reason I get paranoid when DH is on it. Werid.

we moved into a tiny (capitals, exclamation point) kitchen one year ago, and I decided to give up the micro. Haven't missed it because we also gave up eaing the crap that cooks well in a micro. I do love the sound of my whistling tea kettle. Good luck!

Congrats and I hope things continue to look up. A friend I ran into tonight is working at this company up the road. Said there was some items good for children with Autism, so I thought I'd pass along to you. Simon is probably too old for some but figured you knew others who may benefit. Chin up it will only get even better than it is now!
