Hooray for CARS!
Tags:After the chat this morning (you can read the transcripts here) I decided that Simon and I needed to get out of the house. I looked up times for the movie CARSand we were just in time to catch the movie. Simon has been to one movie in the theater before and we left about 1/4 of the way through because it was obvious it was just not going to happen. Figured I might as well try it again.
And we had already been to McDonald's earlier in the week so he already had one of the cars in his possession. Armed with the little blue car, a bag (to fit the food in once we got there so I could also hold his hand), and both of us in our comfy clothes we headed out.
And you know what? He made it through the entire movie and I am pretty sure he had a good time. We had an aisle seat in the front for easy get-away acess if necessary. At first he sat on the step next to my seat. Then he sat in the seat next to me and eventually he went back and forth between my lap and the seat next to me. He did awesome. He talked quite a bit (so we were working on whispering, except in the loud parts he got to yell as loud as he wanted and say VROOM VROOM as loud as he wanted) which I pretty much had to accept if we were going to stay there - and thankfully there was no one in front of us.
The movie was super cool and fun and I had quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. I love Pixar. They rock. But overall, I was just so happy that Simon made it and enjoyed it.
I think he may have even been proud of himself.

I loved that movie with my boys, too. My twins are 5 and every movie seems to have a scarry scene, where we need to leave. It's just so big, so loud, so dark. On the small screen, anything goes, but on the big screen it is a different story. So CARS was a definate 6 thumbs up. Both of the boys and I loved it, and yes, it did make the adults laugh out loud at times. Kudos to you to taking the courage to try a movie again.

We took Carter to CARS today too for his 3rd birthday, and he liked it. We went during naptime, so he got antsy and was getting tired. He talked too and asked to go home in the middle, then fell asleep until right before the end. He liked the cars and had fun while he stayed awake though.
He got a new Lightning Mcqueen car at the movie too from mom and dad. He held onto it the whole movie....even when sleeping.
I am glad Simon had fun. I liked the movie and laughed quite a bit. We liked the Disney movies they showed at the end. We also got a kick out of the tractor tipping ;)

You are such a great mom! All prepared, listening to your child's inner voice.
Pat yourself on the back, Ali and give
Chris a big hug. You two are the BEST
for Simon. What a lucky little guy!

Hi Ali,
I took Ethan to see Cars this week too - and he made it through it too!! I warned Christian that we may have leave if Ethan couldn't handle it - but he did awesome. It's liberating isn't it?! Good for you and good for Simon!!

That is so great - it is so exciting when your child does something new - keep giving him chances and I bet most of the time he will reward you...

We LOVED that movie, truly had humor for everyone. The boys did great, but we are old hands at movies now.
Our 1st attempt at a theatre movie did not go well; we got there a little late, the lights were already down, and Zeb was NOT going into that dark room!! I have learned that an early arrival - but not too early - is very helpful. Also we see almost all our movies at the local theatre. We know the owners, and there's almost always a child from one of their classes there. So he has developed some reliable expectations about going to the movies, and that reduced his stress (and mine) considerably. And this theatre has coffee!! Yea for mom's drink!

Cars did rock! We took our kids to see it, and they all loved it. (I think even our 7 month old did too!) And I finished The Red Tent this weekend, thanks for recommending this book, we went up to DC so I got to read on the road. My husband kept wondering if I was gonna stop reading!

Yay for you guys! That's a great step. Unfortunately my father-in-law wants to take my son so I won't get to see Cars until it's out on DVD, but I know he's going to love it.
