Hooray for CARS!
Tags:After the chat this morning (you can read the transcripts here) I decided that Simon and I needed to get out of the house. I looked up times for the movie CARSand we were just in time to catch the movie. Simon has been to one movie in the theater before and we left about 1/4 of the way through because it was obvious it was just not going to happen. Figured I might as well try it again.
And we had already been to McDonald's earlier in the week so he already had one of the cars in his possession. Armed with the little blue car, a bag (to fit the food in once we got there so I could also hold his hand), and both of us in our comfy clothes we headed out.
And you know what? He made it through the entire movie and I am pretty sure he had a good time. We had an aisle seat in the front for easy get-away acess if necessary. At first he sat on the step next to my seat. Then he sat in the seat next to me and eventually he went back and forth between my lap and the seat next to me. He did awesome. He talked quite a bit (so we were working on whispering, except in the loud parts he got to yell as loud as he wanted and say VROOM VROOM as loud as he wanted) which I pretty much had to accept if we were going to stay there - and thankfully there was no one in front of us.
The movie was super cool and fun and I had quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. I love Pixar. They rock. But overall, I was just so happy that Simon made it and enjoyed it.
I think he may have even been proud of himself.

Yeah Simon. We took our 3 year old to see Cars on Saturday, her first movie. She did ok. She asked a ton of questions and didn't want to sit still. All in all we also had a sucessful movie trip. So fun! Glad you had fun!

I took my little guy to see Cars yesterday. First really good movie I've seen in a long time. I left the theater thinking to myself "I want to be a better person." Love that.

Little victories like this are so important. For him, and for you. When there are tough days, and you find yourself worrying about the future, it helps to remember that slowly, surely he is moving forward...stretching futher...growing in the way that HE needs to. We all have our own timetable, way to go Simon!

Too fun for you guys! That movie was AWESOME! I'm hoping to take my hubby to see it again when it's just the two of us since he had to leave halfway through the movie because our 2-year-old was being so uncooperative.

Was not Cars the most fun movie to see?!?!
We took Cameron last Sunday. He is almost 3 and this was his first "theatre" movie. SO I tried to prepare him by explaining it would be dark and loud and he needed to try and be quiet but was allowed to ask questions and talk quietly.
He was so darn good minus the stand up sit down on the "flippy" chair as he called it and he was driving his Mater and Lightning McQueen cars all over the seats, LOL
The theatre was absolutely packed! But I was amazed at how many adults without kids there were in attendance. At least half of the audience and the place was 90% full.
Our theatre handed out complimentary collector packs of Cars matching Game cards. Cam thought that was ultra cool. Did your theatre do this? I have an extra pack if you would like them for Simon. Just let me know.
I caught your chat at CK today. Was awesome and I totally loved your vision of your dream scrap/art space. I could see it myself when you described it.
<3 the inspiration, Al!

Your description totally made me smile. I could "hear" the smile in your text. Taking a child to the movie is something we take for granted. You both sound like you had an excellent time! So cool!

I want to go and see this but my nephew is only 3 and I know he wouldnt sit through it so I need to find someone else's child to take along (read: exploit - because I dont want to be the only adult there without a child in tow!)

Yeah Ali & Simon! What a team!! I'm glad you enjoyed your outing. My daughter loved, loved the movie. It is so cute and they didn't need to use gross stuff (burping in flicks gets to me...) to get laughs out of the kids, it came naturally.
You might try this little tip too, a few days before we are going to go see a movie, I take her online to the movie's official website and sniff around. We print out some coloring pages of the characters, listen to music or play one of the games. This time for Cars we went to Luigi's Garage and they had a game to stack tires (we basically played around vs. playing the game...). It was a big hit! For The Shaggy Dog, they had a section where you coudl upload a picture and "Shaggify" the pic, so we Shaggified Momma, Dadda and my girl. I think seeing the characters in a different context (i.e. the internet) and then on the big screen is neat for kids. Just like your McD's toy. Hope this tip works for you.
Take care & see you in San Jose!

Have you seen this.... http://rwarn17588.wordpress.com/2006/06/09/a-route-66-guide-to-the-cars-movie/ it shows you the real characters on Route 66 that they based the film on. Pretty cool, sorry I can't remember who to credit for finding this though :) I read it somewhere.
Glad you both enjoyed it!
