Halloween 2006.
Tags:Last night was so cool. This was the first year that Simon "got" what he was supposed to do - he walked right up to the door and said "trick or treat" and "thank you." Chris and I were loving every minute of it...especially the independence & comprehension Simon was showing. The first couple houses he was a bit unsure and then after that he was all over having candy put into his bucket. It was awesome.
And if you got my newsletter today you read that it was all about taking a break. Last night I took a break from my camera - can you believe that? And it was totally cool. Cool to be in the moment experiencing all the Halloween goodness with Chris & Simon rather than one of us busy with the camera. And it was wonderfully ok. Sometimes the memories in our mind are just as fabulous as having the photos to go along with them.

Its good to just put the camera down sometime! But its hard cause you always want to get those pics! It sounds like you had a blast! and I need a break! How do I tell my professors?? "Um....Ali Edwards, my hero, told me to take a break.....so I don't have my homework".......Its too bad...I don't think that would work! But I need one!
Peace out girl scout! :)

Sage words Ali. That's my credo. Enjoy your break, don't have a bad conscience.

As scrapbookers, we are certain we need our cameras with us 24 hours a day. It is nice to once in a while leave the camera behind and experience the moment, instead of watching it through a view finder. Thanks for the reminder.

I totally hear you about "the moment" so often we get caught up with our cameras, even though this is important, it is nice to just sit back and watch...I put my halloween pictures on my blog and believe me they are not great but the most important thing was the kids had a great time. Thanks for sharing your "moments"

ALi,
I so hear you on that! My family expects me to take my camera to all family functions, etc. Sometimes I just want to be. Not "photographer", just "ME". thanks for the reminder!

I so agree with you about just being in the moment. I take only a few pictures at Christmas - decorating the tree and the kids in their new pj's Christmas eve. We take no pictures Christmas Day. We have been doing this for about 3 years and I think we all enjoy Christmas more because of it!

We did the same last night. I got pictures of my guys in their costumes Sat. night so I just left the camera at home. The funny thing about it, we trick-or-treat at several families houses and they all took pictures instead of just asking for reprints of mine, like they usually do when I have my camera with me. I should do it more often!

That is so true to just enjoy the moment and noT feel obsessed with taking pictures...i had a verbal account of the costumes from 6 yr old neice & 4 yr nephew and i had a totally cool time imagining and enjoy each of their conversations...kids can be so funny ..guess you know, huh...

I am so glad you brought this up...I want to leave my camera behind many times and be in the moment...and I just can't seem to let go. I love that it is ok to just have the memory and enjoy the moment. Thanks for helping me to have the strength to let go and be in the moment.
peace

Will have to try that sometime...I so love capturing the moments that I rarely let myself not document the fun...I usually have the camera with me but try to take a few shots and then enjoy the time... I may need a 12 step plan to totally not have it with me. ;)
