Snow Globes.
Tags:One of the things we really wanted Simon to have this year was a snow globe. He sees things on videos (this idea and love for snow globes came from the Wonder Pets - a fabulously random little show on Nick Jr.), talks about them and repeats the story over and over, and then we make them come to life.
We put Chris' parents on the quest to find a snow globe for Simon and they did GREAT. He loves it. Big time love...right up there with the Mickey phone...both of which are currently sitting on his bedside table.
This was Simon's first Christmas that he grasped the idea of Santa - that he was going to come in the night, right down the chimney into our living room, and leave presents. Over the last few weeks he has been giddy with excitement and anticipation - what a joy to witness that from this side of the fence. I think Christmas is almost more fun as an adult with a child who is INTO the holiday and the idea of magic (all goes back to being able to hear the sleigh bells - watch Polar Express if you don't know what I am talking about).
I went back and read my blog entry from a year ago: December 26, 2005. Perspective is a cool thing. Writing things down is a cool thing. Reading about that drink I was liking last year will inspire a trip to the grocery later today (after more boxes are opened and stuff put away).
Also planning to get creative today. One positive thing about moving is that all my scrap stuff becomes new again - it is not in the same old location. I am seeing things with fresh eyes - something that is so important in the creative process.
Happy Tuesday.

It's so fun when they discover Santa isn't it? My son just kinda figured all that out this year too. I don't think he slept very good /as we told him Santa brings gifts when we all sleep at night. He probably hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa .....I think he thought Santa was staying overnight or something. He kept saying Santa goes in our extra bedroom. Go figure? What kids are thinking when you tell them things. My son also thinks Santa comes thru the Garage and not the Chimney. I just let him think this as he is "obsessed" with garages. IT adds to the whimsey for them to think what they want right? -glad to see you all had a very nice christmas in your new place. Look forward to new blogs in your new digs.

Hello Ali,
Thanks for all the inspiration on this website - you do such a great job. I have never commented before - but I actually want to ask a question...
You did a post (and of course I don't remember when - few months ago maybe) and you showed your scrapping space/office. In this post, I think, you mentioned the scapbooks you like to use and they were maybe binders from Walmart...something inexpensive anyways. Can you please respond to let me know the type of book it was - or direct me to what month/date the post was in? Thanks!

That is the most beautiful snowglobe I've ever seen. Where on earth did your in-laws get that at?

That is an absolutely precious picture... i'm so excited for Simon and for you that Christmas was so magical.
I love what you said about moving and your creative space... everything old is new again. I am itching to work on getting my studio together and create again. I haven't moved since before I was REALLY into scrapbooking, so this is my first experience with moving studio space and starting over. Thanks for giving me something more to look forward to.
Happy unpacking :)

I had the same experience this year with my daughter. She was so exited about Santa... Of course the one who couldn't sleep was me, I was so wired to finally see her discovering the presents Santa had left for her. It was such a joy to watch and to experience it for the first time with her.
I also want to get her a snow globe. I think all kids should have a little magic right there at their fingertips for whenever they want or need it.
I hope Simon enjoys and treasures his.
I can't wait to see what you'll be up to creatively...You are such an inspiration to me. Thank you!
Anilu.

Lovely picture!
And I'm so there with you on the perspective issue. It's so important to look back at how we felt years back and how we have grown and become who we are today! Blogs, journals and scrapbooks are such an awesome tool for that! Thanks for the amazing inspiration Ali. Looking back at your post from last year, it also brought memories back of how inspired I was then by your photography and style and it's phenomenal to see how much more inspired I continue to be one year later! Thanks!

What a great picture of you and your beautiful son. Gotta love a snowglobe. I have three Christmas globes on my living rooms shelves - two of them play music.
