Why is it?
Tags:Why is it that you never really realize how much stuff you have until you have to move?
I consider myself as someone who is good at purging. Good at getting rid of stuff I am not using. But man, we have a lot of stuff packed into this little place. And don't even get me started on the amount of stuff in the garage. Yikes. I was over at the new place today and right now (since we have not moved in yet LOL) I can fit my car in there so rather than having to carry boxes into the house out in the rain I can just do it from inside the garage - talk about awesome.
The wireless and the cable and the phone are getting hooked up at the new place tomorrow so my computer will be moving...that pretty much makes it official.
Notice the beer on my desk? Totally needing that after today. Had a few of those moments where I just wanted to cry because I was feeling so overwhelmed. At those moments I jumped on the computer, zoned out for a few, and then got back into packing mode again.
I am planning on moving most of my studio stuff over to the new place myself. Most of it is in baskets already and I retain control over just where it goes. Ah, control. My friend. Continually working on letting go...
And a scrap update: the Oregon Scrapbook Convention is coming up in March and I am going to be teaching a class this year called Discover Home. Sign ups will be on the CK site soon.

yeah...beer is good. beer and packing should be mandatory LOL. but since you love to purge yer stuff so much, this will be fun for you in the end. and you'll have such an amazing sense of accomplishment. that's what i LOVE about moving...the calm of having a house in order...a brand new junk drawer to fill LOL. it'll be fun! just take it one day at a time and relax! :0)

Hope you'll have a wonderful holiday at the new place.
Totally agree with you on having so much stuff.
In my case, it is no one but me who bought all the stuff.
Scary... :(

I feel you pain. I've had to move 5 times in 9 years!!! With no help whatsoever and two of those tomes I was pregnat and with big cases of all day morning sickness...
But when you're finally done, it's such a great feeling to start to fit into your new house and start turning it into a home... It kinda makes all the work worth it.
Have fun and keep the beers close by.
Anilu.

I hope your packing is going well... I would say call a pal for help, but if you are like me, you want to pack the boxes yourself! So, take those zone out breaks, read some blogs, surf the web, and yep, relax with that brewsky...throw in a few nachos if necessary. I guess that is my prescription for today's moving madness! And remember, Christmas morning for Simon won't be about the new house being all "perfect". It will be you, him, and Chris, together, enjoying some new goodies, relaxing, remembering, and making a new holiday memory...an emptier house may just be the perfect canvas for that! :)

I feel your pain... when the movers were unpacking our truck, I just wanted to cry because here we have this beautiful clean house and it was getting more and more cluttered by the second. At one point, I was just standing there as the movers walked by me with box after box of stuff and I just felt completely overwhelmed. We're on day 6 in the new house and it's just starting be liveable.
Good luck!

I can totally relate!! I have a two car garage - one side over taken by rubbermaid storage and the other side barely fits a car :) But, a new house, a clean slate for the new year - how awesome is that?!
BTW, Registration for the CKC Portland has already started (it started Dec.13) here is the link:

Your a very brave gal! First, a big vacation....and a huge move right at Christmas time. That just crazy! No wonder your drinking. What I've learned from reading this post is alot of people move on Christmas and drink beer. ~hee~ Try having some eggnog too. Tis the season ya know! good luck on the move and hope we can see your new studio in the new place.

Good luck with the move. Moving is my least favorite thing ever, though I certainly seem to be doing it once a year these days.

Just checked out the Disney pphotos. Stars in Heaven, is that boy adorable!! I went with my family on Tuesday and got to see many of the things you described (i.e. family bonding, looking at my husband and just smiling at how happy our daughter was, and we ourselves as well). Thanks for always sharing...it's great to know others value the same things I'm grateful for myself. And now to scrap some WDW photos!!

Parking in a garage - that must be heaven, especially while moving and the rain !! My goal is to have my garage purged by the spring to park in the garage not collect stuff !!!
I am signed up for CK Oregon and am in your class !!! I talked to the gals at our scrapbook store and they laughed- knowing that was a class I would take for sure !!!
Merry Christmas - Carole =)

Hi Ali I moved last week and I know how you feel. I always purge before we move and then purge again when we unpack. Nothing like moving house to make you want to throw out everything you own!

I can totally empathize with moving within days of Christmas because we experienced that four years ago. I wish I had the wisdom of taking breaks when I felt overwhelmed. I freaked when the movers couldn't deliver our stuff until the day before Christmas, but looking back at the photos and memories of that year we can now laugh about putting the presents around a small wooden "charlie brown" tree and surrendering to the powerlessness I had over many things. I wish you and your family happy holidays and the satisfaction of moving into your home which always feels like a fresh start. I am addicted to your site. Every morning I make myself a cup of hot tea and go straight to your weblog. Thanks for being such an awesome person and artist and sharing it with the world!
