Tags:Totally diving into my book and the various tasks that entails: projects, writing, planning, organization, etc. This book, slated for release in the fall, will be about the concept of Life Art - capturing life and creating art - and what that all means to me.
One of the things I would like to include are questions from you guys - similar to the questions that you submit for the newsletter relating to scrapbooking and creating and all that good stuff.
If you would like to submit a question please email me at ali@aliedwardsdesign.com and put BOOK in the subject line. If you have already submitted a question for the newsletter you don't need to submit it again as I will be going through that file as well.
I am also interested in gathering up some of your thoughts on Life Art - what does it mean to you?
Thanks in advance for your questions and comments.

Hey Ali,
First, I had a blast at your class at Split Rock, my only regret, I didn't spend enough time getting to know you a little better AND picking your brain a bit more!!
Next-Life Art=preservation in my creative realm. I get such an emotional overload (which is good!) when I create something that I know will stand the test of time...I love to gift people with things that will create memories for THEM!! In my eyes, it is all about remembering-from times with my grandmother (I wish I had paid better attention when I was younger) to watching my kids growing like weeds.
Anyway-I am looking forward to your next visit to Pennsylvania!!

First of all, I love this picture. Secondly, what an awesome idea for a book! I've never bought a book related to scrapbooking (not including magazines), but this is one book I would absolutely buy.

This sounds like such a fun book...can't wait to read it. Life Art: the bits and pieces of the everyday memorialized in a creative way. That's how I think of it. Can't wait to see everyones responses.

Life art to me is about taking everyday happenings that we can take for granted and turning them into something special through art or in my case scrapbooking... I also find that since I have started scrapbooking and creating through it, I am looking at my life in a completely different light. What I great idea for a book. I can't wait to grab a copy... :-)

Life Art= Stopping Time in my mind. Every piece of art nvolving a memory has caught that moment and held it indefinitely... and when we make art that does that for us we know it, and it hits us right in the chest. That punch in the stomach that takes your breath away because what you just did was stunningly important to the history of you, your family, your dreams. That is what Life Art means to me.

I agree with Joy in what Life Art is about (by the way, good definition, Joy) :) When I look at our scrapbook layouts, they remind me of special memories that would have otherwise been long forgotten. I love this quote that I have up on my bulletin board by author Eudora Welty -- "A good snapshot stops a moment from running away." Can't wait to read your book this fall, Ali.

great news about your upcoming book! Can't wait to see/read/explore it! Life art to me is preserving memories for the future; another reason I am so looking forward to your album track at CKU Detroit. Definitely the reason I scrapbook - for my family and loved ones.

For me, I'm not sure I knew how to really appreciate my life until I learned so see it through an artist's eye. Until I began scrapbooking, my life was just a day to day journey that I seldom spent time thinking about. Scrapbooking changed that, I began to see the beautiful things in my life, and journaling them, helped me to appreciate the words and thoughts of my life also.
Thanks for asking for feedback, it sounds like a wonderful book!

How exciting to have another book from you. Life art: certainly taking the things of daily life and preserving them in some artistic format. It's about being more attentive to each moment. But to me it's more than that. It's also taking what I think, feel, see, hear, and experience about life and preserving it. It's the highs and lows. The joys and the sorrows. It's like a journal of my life and the lives of all my family (including members no longer alive) in some artistic form. For me that format is most often in my scrapbooks, but it's also in journal entries, and art journals.

Ali,
do you ever start a project that does not flow, that you want to rip up and trash yet somehow at the end it falls together? That has been my creative process of late. I have difficulty staying patient and on task while my inner critics are egging me on to give it up. As a result i have lots started and little completed in the way of creating. How do you deal with this, if you in fact have that struggle?

love love love your talent and the inspiration you send out into this world! what a gift! i guess my question for you would be, since it is something that i struggle with, "how do you manage all of the product that you have at hand? i always feel overwhelmed at all of the fabulous stuff that is made to help my scrapbook pages come together, but often hoard them and then feel paralyzed by thinking about how and when to use them. i love the idea of creating life art, just jumping in and using what feels right for a particular page or project, but often get stuck....any tips on "managing" all the cool stuff out there?"
thanks....jamie

Life Art for me is an extension of my giving to others. My love of creativity overflows with my love of my friends and family. For gifts and just because, I am driven to create something and in so, show how much I care for them. I love how this creativity combines with compassion. My husband always asks why I have to fuss so much or make it perfect. That's how I want my caring and love for them too be. Never just good enough or done with short cuts. They are worth all the effort and that is priceless.
