Simon says...

Lots of talking coming for this little guy lately...and some pretty good antics too. Last night while Mom, Chris and I were watching American Idol (known around here as the "singing show") he grabbed the tub of cookie dough and headed back to our bedroom for a little feast. Yum. Daddy caught him on that one. He (Simon) laughed and laughed.
He is asking to be tickled and to be chased.
He says, "I cry myself" on the way to school every morning and has been choosing to "I take a break" most days when we get in the door of the classroom. The class has a spot set up just for "taking breaks" with some big beanbags so he can calm down and acclimate before making other activity choices.
He is really into Little Einsteins this week. Lots of "patting" going on (they pat their legs to make their rocket go fast).
He feeds Lily 2 cups of dog food in the morning (and sometimes sneaks a little bite for himself).
Simon and Chris and my Mom will be joining me up here in Portland tomorrow night for part of the CK Convention. Fun to have them here with me to see what I do, etc. Looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces over the course of the weekend.
And man, those numbers keep on rising. It is so, so exciting.

Love to hear Simon's words. Funny, my Christopher calls Idol the same thing. Sometimes it's "mama's singing show." Keep up the awesome work, Simon!

Haha... I'm hearing a lot of "pat, clap, pat, clap..." from Camden these days. The idea of a "taking breaks" corner is SO perfect for him. I think I will set one up for him in his room. Thanks for mentioning that! I love updates on Simon. To me, he's just as precious as my own little ones.

such a cool picture and I must say that I a bit "jealous" on how good Autism is supported in schools and special programmes in the usa. I wish we had those here too in the Netherlands.

Ali,
My 5 year old son was also diagnosed when he was 3 years old. It was a defintie up hill battle to get the diagnosis. I appreciate all your info on your blog. Amazing! What a resource. I am also really liking your banner that was posted the other day. I will keep reading! Good luck with your efforts. I am trying to get my MIL to join in on a walk with me in June. Wish me luck!

Simon is growing up fast and making such progress. Love the cookie dough story! He's a child after my own cookie dough heart. Glad the family can join you at CK Convention and I wish I were there, too!

Simon is adorable. 'Whatcha doing people?' How sweet! Seriously cute pic. :)
Love the progressive sounding nature of the school he is in. I wish I heard more stories like this. Especially since he knows how to 'cope' with a school situation and they equip him to do it on his own. You should be really happy with this, Ali. I have 2 autistic cousins who've struggled (and still are) in environments that were meant for kids without autism. Your school seems to 'get it.' I bet you had to do a lot of research to find the right place. So glad to hear this stuff!

Simon is so adorable. I enjoy the photos. I am so excited that your numbers and donations are climbing. Would love to see you finish at number one. I pray that everyone keeps these donations coming so you can finish on top and hope the donations continue when the project is done.
Ali you are an inspiration to us all. Thank you so much.
