Three Things : Lines (and a Designer Digitals giveaway)
Tags:One of the easiest ways I have found to add journaling to my projects is to incorporate products that include lines just waiting for words. They invite words.
[ Or I can always just pull out the pen + ruler and get those lines on there myself. Whatever is least complicated at the moment tends to be my choice. ]
Here's a look at some of my favorite products that showcase the simple beauty of lines:
Karen Russell Narratives Scalloped Lined Paper : Probably one of my all time favorite lined papers (next to the old Making Memories Ledger paper). I love that bit of scallop around the edge.
Technique Tuesday's Storyteller's Ledger Stamp : A great stamp for jotting down information and telling bits of a story on layouts, cards, minibooks, etc. Completely versatile.
Luxe Simple Lined Double-Sided Paper : Quickly becoming a favorite, this lined paper is a part of Luxe's Simply Luxe line (essentially lines + dots). Check out the grid, ledger, and pinstriped verisions as well.
Mug Memo Notebook from Fishs Eddy : This mug inspired the line theme this week. Such a happy mug. And watch out for lots of other cool things in this shop. Check out the other memo/line-inspired mugs and trays here.
In addition to Three Things today I am exicted to offer a giveaway of my first collection of layered templates and brushes from Designer Digitals. Leave a comment below with your favorite tip for getting words down on your projects (and not leaving them blank for a "someday-down-the-road-I-will-add-the-journaling"). A winner will be drawn at 5pm Pacific on Wednesday.
[ Three Things is a weekly product series : check out the archives here. ]

I always think of my words while I'm relaxing, usually at Starbucks, looking through magazine ads. The ads will inspire me with a phrase, I write it down on a napkin, think of the photos or the person it corresponds to and then write away on my little torn up napkin. I have tons of written on napkins lying around my scraproom just waiting for me to do their layouts. But instead, I sit here reading blogs . . .

J*U*S*T D*O I*T...try not to get too caught up in "perfect" (very hard for me)...i tell myself, it is better to have the journaling in there than never doing the "go back & add later"...
thanks ali for the inspiration & always making us think!

Since journaling is my least favorite thing to do on a scrapbook page, I try and use a tag or some sort of small element - that way I at least have room for the date and main information, but don't have to spend a ton of time reflecting (I know...sounds awful!).

i honestly have to say this is the hardest for me. it's really hard for me to write on my pages. so i will write what i want to say on a sticky note and put it on the page for a day when i feel okay to write.
love the lines. also a lover of karen russell's paper.
thanks, ali.

I just love to incorporate my words/journaling into the art-project in some way. If I plan to leave room for a Journaling-Block or something it never turns out - in the end there's never room left and my Layouts end up without Journaling. So lately I write around photos - along swirls or other elements - or along/inside the pattern on patterned paper - or fill empty space on the photo itself with workds ... works fine for me and this way I always get at least SOME Journaling on my Pages.

Between my blog and a notebook that I use to quickly write stories of events, I always have something for journaling.

I'm a digi scrapper, so I journal as soon as I do the page.
But I was also the same way when I was a paper scrapper... If I did a page, I did the WHOLE thing.
I also keep a journal with my feelings and what has been going on so that I can always go back to see what was going on in my life during the time I took the pics!!!

OK.. I'm old school- I make an outline or list of things to say.... BUT you need the right paper (soft) and the right pen- it just has to feel right coming out, you know? I'm cheap- Papermate blue or the chunky clear pens from the local store- in blue! I can't wait until school shopping- because I will buy pens for journaling- for me!

Little journaling spots definitely do it for me. Somehow they help me tell the perfect story - knowing that I have a little space to fill always works.

Thanks for the give-away! I meet me girlfriends at our LSS to work on our books. When I am organized I have my pictures sorted and I journal on the computer. I print it out and take it with me to stick on my completed page. I do lots with my on handwriting too I promise!

I'm defiantly not an expert since I have probably close to 20 LOs waiting for journaling. I find it easier to journal if I don't have much to say. If I can write a sentence or 2 and be done that I'll probably do it right away.

My favorite tip for journaling? A favorite pen and then JUST DOING IT! I can find a million excuses to not journal or just write something down, but I have noticed that I really enjoy going back and READING on my older layouts. Journaling?.... no excuses...JUST DO IT!

I use my blog! Since I've been blogging, it has been so much easier to remember the things I want to say...so when I finally get down to getting a scrapbook page done (kinda hard with two little princesses always wanting attention)..I'm ready and I can easily remember what I wanted to say.
Loving the digital scrapbooking - I do a lot of hybrid pages which makes journaling easier too!

I always leave a spot when designing the page and then i add some kind of journaling block. right now I'm addicted to Jenni Bowlin's journaling tags and some lovely date tags I bought from an etsy store.

I like to add text to 'open' spaces on my pictures.

Thanks for the giveaway.
I love words in general. I love writing and I really really love reading. I know that the journaling are as important as the photos if not more important, BUT many times I do leave the journaling space empty, until I come up with a great way to tell the story. Unfortunately, I usually don't come back to the journaling and the stories are left forgotten. SO, I guess my best advice - to myself - is not to wait for a great way to tell the story. Not to think about being witty and wonderful but just tell the story, as it is in my head while looking at the picture. The story is fantastic by itself - no additional styling is needed :)
