Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My favorite creative technique is painting outside. Last week I bought brand new acrylics colors from the art store and filled a bin with canvases (some just needing edges done + others in process) and headed out to our backyard. It was nice to spread everything out and have the mix of bright colors and sunlight in my eyes.

Hi there! My fav technique these days is altering my photos in PS. It's not that I don't like my pics, but quite often they don't turn out the way the moment was in my head.. I like to change that to better reflect that moment and time so that others can get a sense of what it felt like. THerefore the puter is a godsend!

I love to scrap my photos on white cardstock, then stamp with black ink, adding watercolors around the stamp. Simple and a great finishing touch.

At the moment I really like painting little masks and embellish them with different fabrics, lace and little beads. I would love to win the book... thank you for entering my name to your generous giveaway!

Those books look wonderful ... I'll have to take a trip to the library sometime soon! My favorite thing these days is digi scrapping ... just took Jessica's Digi in Deep course and am enjoying using some of the techniques she taught me! Have a wonderful day Ali!

Wow-this book looks very insightful. My favourite thing right now is using stamps and acrylic paint directly onto my LOs. I used to be a bit "scared" of doing this directly onto my cardstock/patterned paper and really admired how your work (especially your use of stamping and how you embrace the imperfections it sometimes can add) does it so naturally. So... I took the plunge and am really enjoying adding these with careful but freer creativity!!! Would love to win a copy. Congrats on your pregnancy. It seems better/more enjoyable second time around!

I love to use my scanner to scan anything and everything, even leaves. I can then work these images into hybrid projects.

My favorite creative technique lately is art journaling...I love the freedom to go with the flow and find it theraputic. I add pictures as if scrapping when I feel like it. I am enjoying the ebb and flow of creativity in this manner.

Scrapbooking continues to be my favorite artistic endeavor but I am learning how to knit as well.

I stamp, stamp and stamp some more. But I am also a fiber artist so I have to spend time with that. I don't do much house cleaning:)

Looks like fabulous inspiration books! Thanks Ali for always keeping up with these things and sharing it with us. To be really off the map - I am finding gardening to be my most satisfying creative outlet at the moment. Once fall sets in hopefully I will find time to scrapbook again.

Thanks for the giveaway. Now-a-days my favorite thing to do is playing around with photography, and using different kinds of actions.

My favorite "technique" right now is paring back to just the things I love so that I am not overwhelmed by the choices or frustrated by not being able to find something. Sticking to just a couple of lines that carry me through nearly everything like 7 Gypsies.
