Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I am just actually starting to play with acrylic stamps and am loving it...I decided to throw my good friend a baby shower, mainly so I could make invitations with all my new supplies, and make cute decorations and things I am way excited...the best part is it isn't till December, so I have plenty of time to play around! Yay!

I am still very interested in scrapbooking, especially the mini books! Trying my hand at using acrylic pieces. Exciting and challenging at the same time!

To use the objects I have for projects, rather than buying specifically for something. I don't have the extra budget anymore for my supplies, so being more creative with what I have is challenging.

I love anything that has something to do with paper --- scrapbooking, cardmaking, different paper crafts, mini-albums, etc. I relish making something wonderful and different out of a flat (and otherwise simple) piece of paper. :)

I've been having a ball with my travel journal! Been going back quite a few years and putting all our trips into one journal. Trying to just use words....a very good technique used by a certain uber-scrapper!

Hi Ali. I love the looks of the Taking Flight book. Went to Barnes & Noble today to check it out but they didn't have it yet. I worked on a book today where I took a stencil and using Spackle to make a cover. Really cool how it came out.

The latest techniques that I have been into is a little more hybrid scrappin'. I love that I can make a million different choices and not ruin a piece of pretty paper to try something new.

Hi Ali,
I always find your blog and your art inspirational. :) Thank you for letting me participate in your fun giveaway. This looks like an amazing book.
I have two favorite creative techniques currently. I love working in needlearts specifically cross-stitching and spend many relaxing evenings with my needle in hand.
I also love scrapbooking. I have recently delved into hybrid scrapbooking thanks to your recent posts + how to's on the subject. I am loving experimenting with brushes, printing and then using them as an element on the traditional pages that I am creating. Thank you for introducing and instructing me on how to use this wonderfully fun technique. :)

My mom died in July and I have inherited a million photos and paper bits of my family history, my Mom threw nothing away, including greeting cards signed by every member of our extended family it seems and school papers and documents. Many of the old photos are wonderful but who knows who they are? I hope to used mixed media, collage to incorporate some of these precious keepsakes of this into projects and SB pages.

Scrapbooking with mixed media creations a very close second. I went out & bought a bunch of cool supplies a few months ago after reading an article of Kelly's in Cloth Paper Scissors and have been hooked ever since!!

My latest favorite is to add words to my photos. I learned the very basis of photoshop elements this summer and have been going crazy with adding words to my photos. I keep asking family and friends if they have photos they would like to me add words too. I can't wait to find some time to scrapbook some of these new photos and add them to my albums!
Would love a copy of the new book!!

I have resumed working on an acrylic mural on my 10 year old son's wall - it's an image of (the old) Yankee stadium. I'm trying to find ways for him to help a bit here and there (he made a zillion dots for part of "the crowd" this weekend.)

Lately my favorite method of communicating my story through art is through typography mixing different fonts even in the same word to achieve the desired emotional impact.

I'm incorporating the new techniques from a BPS class into scrapbooks, journals, and snail mail envelopes. And I just purchased some Sakura Souffle pens, and I'm anxious to try them to see if and how they differ from glaze pens.
